Picture - Wings

Picture Wings cover
Pure Steel Records
Well, Picture has been around for some forty years although they went twice on hiatus, for some pretty extended periods. They returned only recently with their original lineup augmented by a second guitarist and I think that “Wings” is their twelfth release.
Forty years down the line, the band plays with gusto and feels vastly superior to their younger selves, other than Ronald van Prooijen, who while decent still sounds somewhat odd in his English enunciation and at certain points fatigued. I would never compare him with either Avigal or Lovell with whom Picture might have released some of their most commercial releases as they are vast superior singers. Still songs like “Line of Life”, “Stroke” and “Blown Away” have their own charm and are reasonably good musically. Not likely to fall on “deaf” heavy metal ears…then.
Preaching to the converted is what this album is about and it does that to a level that will probably make them happy, although I’d have been happier if they had kept on with Lovell, in all honesty. It is what it is though.
