Per Fredrik “PelleK” Asly a.k.a. PelleK is a young Norwegian vocalist who became mostly known after his participation in the talent show X Factor in 2009. A year later he self-released an EP entitled “My Demons”. Later, he became part of Damnation Angels and they released the debut album called “Bringer of Light” in Japan… soon to be out in Europe as well. We will talk about this album in time as it’s not to be forgotten at all.
Finally, PelleK’s first solo release is a fact. There are some guys contributing in this album who offered him a great help in order to make it as good as it is. Tommy “ReinXeed” Johansson (ReinXeed, Golden Resurrection, Charlie Shred) has done a great job in every part as he plays the guitars, the bass, the keyboards & the drums and also has done some backing vocals, the orchestration, the programming and the production of the CD. This guy has done quite everything here. The other guy who plays the guitar is Gisha. There are also some very known musicians participating on “Bag Of Tricks” such as: Oliver Hartmann on “Reason and Psychosis”, Amanda Sommerville on “Send My Message Home”, Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, Seventh Wonder) on “Stare Into My Eyes”, Anders Ringdal Strom on “Born In Babylon” & Marit Borresen on “Don’t Belong” & “Conflagrate My Heart”.
The atmosphere of the album is rather imposing… it exhales an epic feeling at times… although the music is mostly on the melodic side of Euro heavy/power metal. PelleK has initially focused on strong vocal melodies… without leaving out of his musical approach any heavy, power, symphonic, hard rock & melodic metal elements. The album has some very powerful metal songs like: “Fugue State”, “Reason and Psychosis”, “Thundernight”, “Stare Into My Eyes”, & a few sensational ballads such as: “Send My Message Home”, Don’t Belong”, “Born In Babylon” & “Conflagrate My Heart”.
PelleK sings his heart out here… proving that he is a vocalist/songwriter that will take a leading role in heavy/power metal music in the years to come… but I must also refer to the wonderful solos delivered by the guitarists. The guys have done an excellent job indeed. “Bag of Tricks” is a wonderful melodic heavy/power metal album… which becomes even more appealing with every new listening. PelleK’s first personal work is excellent in any way… don’t miss this one if you’re into melodic heavy/power metal music…
