Inside Out Music
Headspace were formed back in 2006 by the keyboardist Adam Wakeman (Ozzy Osbourne, Rick & Adam Wakeman, solo), the vocalist Damian Wilson (Threshold, Landmarq, solo, etc.), the guitarist Pete Rinaldi, the bass player Lee Pomeroy (Steve Hackett, It Bites, Rick Wakeman etc.) and the drummer Richard Brook (Sugababes, Go West, Tony Hadley, Avril Lavigne etc.). The guys released the EP “I Am…” in 2007 and now after almost 5 years, they are presenting their debut full-length release.
Of course, the music is progressive metal with various influences from the 70s, 80s & 90s and bands such as: Dream Theater, Rush, Coheed & Cambria, Fates Warning, Ayreon, Pain of Salvation, Genesis, Yes, Kings X, Planet X, among others. I’m sure that the prog maniacs will feel excited with this band as the album contains long songs (average length is about 9 minutes), variety in tempos and moods. The production is great as the famous Jens Bogren (Paradise Lost, Amon Amarth & Katatonia among others) has mixed the album.
“I Am Anonymous” has a heavier edge… bringing Dream Theater on mind at times… when they go more melodic and rock they are better, I think… as I do not quite like the prog metal Dream Theater started delivering after “Images & Words”. I wish this was closer to Threshold which I respect more than DT… but then again there was not point for Damien to do something like the thing he did in his band as well. Anyhow, “I Am Anonymous” is mostly recommended to the prog metal freaks…
