The US Celtic punkers Dropkick Murphys are back with their new, ninth, full-length album in 4 years, after “Signed and Sealed in Blood”, which was released in 2013. The band announced the new album with the release of the video for the track “Blood” in November 2016. It’s the first time that the band left Boston and went to El Paso, Texas in order to make the new album. There’s also a track, “4-15-13”, about the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing. The band also released a cover for “You’ll Never Walk Alone” – yeah, the track that’s worldwide known for being the anthem of Liverpool F.C. Of course, the story of the track goes back to 1945 and it’s a show tune from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Carousel”. I guess the track is fine but I’ll take (and I’m not the only one) the Liverpool anthem anytime over this.

The production is clear and full in general. The band does not stray from their specific music style that has made them famous in the 2 decades they exist. To put it straight Dropkick Murphys are offering a modest uplifting (mostly) popish punk/rock album with various folk & Celtic elements. It’s OK if you’re fan of the band and you can listen to it at whatever time of the day… that’s all.
