Wild Rose

The Greek melodic rockers, Wild Rose, are back with a renewed line-up featuring two old members of the band that are back for good, the singer George Bitzios and the lead guitarist John Bitzios. “4” is a tasteful AOR/melodic rock album that also contains elements which made the specific music kind so beloved among its fans. Read what guitarist & songwriter Andy Rock told Grande Rock below.

Hi Andy… it’s great we have the chance to talk about your new album “4”, which is probably your strongest one imho…
A: Hello Thanos! It is also my pleasure chatting with you!
Firstly, do tell us about George’s and John Bitzios’ return. How important was it for the band and how did that reunion “affect” the new material?
A: I don't think that there was a better period of time for George to come back to his base and John of course as well! It is for sure pretty important to have the original singer and lead guitarist you started with and continue to produce albums because first of all it’s a matter of family and friendship and I couldn’t think of anyone else singing the tracks of the new album better. John also did a great job on the guitars and the solo parts.
Do you think that this is the “perfect lineup” for Wild Rose and do you feel now more sanguine that before?
A: Yes it is! Cause the band hits the road again after so many years... The chemistry of the band is unique, something that fans will for sure feel when they’ll see us on stage in our “4 Mediterranean Tour”.
Tell us about the new deal with Lions Pride Music. Is like a “tradition” to work with new labels for every new album or what?
A: The new deal with Lions Pride Music as all the previous labels came after negotiations with contracts and stuff. If any company gives us what we need, we sign with them; if not, we don’t. The thing is simple. It’s not a tradition on changing labels but when a label doesn’t support your needs, you go with the other one that does. I think that Lions Pride Music does a very great effort and gives us great support so far!
Hence, which are the similarities and the differences between your new album and the previous ones? Did you add any “new” elements to “4”?
A: All of our albums have some similarities like the lyrics (with romantism, relations, love, having fun) and of course many melodies. Also, if you start from our first album “Half Past Midnight” and go until “4” you’ll see that every following album has improvements (at least in our ears hahaha). The difference in “4” album is that the mix and the mastering has been taken care of “other hands” Mr. Pelle Saether and Dan Backman and of course it follows our sound but it’s fresher and unique. In my opinion musically from our four albums “Hit 'N' Run” is the most complete album we’ve ever done so far... (musically and technically). It’s just not an album that needs a one-time listen but multiple ones to get into its vibe.
How did you come up with the album title “4”?
A: Hahaha, it was quite simple… There was a question of: How do we call the new album? And simply “Four” was the answer. We’ve also thought of calling it “Delta”, the truth is, which means “Four” in Ancient Hellenic but we finally left it as it first was.
Give us a hint about each track…
A: “Desperate Heart”: Long story...
“Love Can Change You”: I don’t wanna remember her…
“Summer Girl”: Oh! My first love! (I still remember her)…
“Time After Time”: What???
“Love Games”: Haris wrote that song (laughs)…
“Hot Wired”: Crazy b*tch…
“Save the Night”: A personal moment from a hard period of my life…
“Broken Hearted”: Fallin’ in love for the first time…
“Waiting for You”: She didn’t even answer my phone calls?!
“Don’t Let Me Down”: A lot of alcohol & voila!
How did you decide to release 3 different cover artworks with slight variations amongst them?
A: The truth is the first cover artwork was the Japanese one. After some weeks a photo from the model Maria Daravigka appeared in front of Chris’ eyes and we finally took her photo in the Worldwide and the Hellenic Editions. It was in our thoughts to do it before a long time but the opportunity finally came now.
You produced the album and it was also mixed by Pelle Saether & mastered by Dan Backman. Are you totally satisfied with the final outcome?
A: I’m very satisfied and I believe that the result is exactly what my ears wanted to hear. Pelle did a really great job on the mix and he also gave the album the freshness it needed and Dan also on the mastering, it was a first pass!
Are there any plans to release any concept or lyric video anytime soon? If yes, for which track(s)?
A: Unfortunately, no, I don’t think so cause I don’t really like lyric videos at all, they have nothing to offer, instead I prefer real video clips but we didn’t had the time to make one in this album cause of band members personal reasons and touring on “Hit 'N' Run Tour” previously.
Apart from the “4 Mediterranean tour”, which will start in June, will there be any other summer shows for the band?
A: No, there won’t be. Due to heavy schedule on George’s shows program in Germany the band can’t make more shows than those confirmed in the “4 Mediterranean Tour”.
What are your expectations from “4”? What are the future goals that you wanna attain with Wild Rose?
A: Well it has already reached our expectations! Our expectation is our fans to love our songs and if we can touch their souls we are happy. Future goals? Hmm let’s live the present first and what comes around goes around for the future...

Time for our “weird questions”!!! If you could “erase” one thing from modern music, what would it be?
A: All things from modern music. It sucks!
Are “social media” a “compulsory part” of music biz these days or bands, artists & labels can do without them as well?
A: Well of course “social media” is a big thing for artists and labels that help you spread the word to your fans easier but nowadays our music isn’t so popular as it was back in the heydayz, so, thank God for YouTube and all the people searching to find us out!
Which is the record you wish you had written and why?
A: Mark Free – “Long Way From Love” cause it speaks to my soul.
Which is the guitarist who influenced rock music the most?
A: Gary Moore
Fill in the phrase… “AOR wouldn’t have evolved the way it did, if it hadn’t been for…”
A: Love!
Were you obliged to give just one album to extraterrestrials that would represent the whole human music, which album would it be and from which band/artist?
A: I dunno! It’s a very difficult question (laughs)…
If you had the chance to travel in time… where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?
A: To the past and try to save the good music from the nowadays garbage.
Who is the sexiest female Rock Star of all time?
A: Lee Aaron?!
What’s the worst thing one can say right after sex?
A: A wrong name...
You have the opportunity to have a “wild night” with the movie-celebrity/porn-star of your choice. Who would it be & why?
A: Whaaaaaaaat?? No way! I’m not telling you....
Where would you like to live… in Middle Earth, in the Seven Kingdoms or in a post-apocalyptic world like the one on “The Walking Dead”?
A: I wanna live in Paradise...
Thank you very much for taking to Grande Rock, Andy. Wish you the best for the new album… take care!
A: The pleasure was all mine! Rock On!
