People might recognize Burning Rain as the long standing hard rock band founded by guitarist Doug Aldrich (Revolution Saints, The Dead Daisies, ex-Whitesnake, Dio) and vocalist Keith St. John (Montrose, Kingdom Come), among others (with the rhythm section changing, rather often). The band seems to take a bit of a back seat every time that a big touring project occupies Aldrich’s schedule, but since there’s undeniable chemistry between the two main personalities here, they seem to resurrect the project, albeit infrequently.
“Face the Music” is actually their fourth release in twenty years, so you sort of get the picture… The band’s heavy, bluesy hard rock is pretty much intact, often feeling like a heavier version of 70s Aerosmith, having some Montrose and the sort of Swagger that Y&T has on occasion. Talking of which, their newest bassist, Brad Lang (Y&T), mans that position along with Blas Elias of Slaughter on drums, providing the somewhat lazy but still quite tight rhythm section. There’s a ton of great stuff here, “Larelei”, the title track, “Beautiful Road”, the bluesy “If It’s Love” that evokes early Snake… these guys know how to muster out some proper rock, just like they did back in the golden old days. Get this album and get your groove on this summer.
