Haken - Virus

Haken have become prog metal darlings and while up to a point, their work ethic is undeniable, as are their abilities, they might or might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Some people put on tirades about how derivative of DT they might be on occasion, while others praise them to no end as if they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Course Of Fate - Mindweaver

Course Of Fate is a newcomer that comes from Norway and was originally founded in 2015, even though an unofficial version of the band existed years before. This sextet seems to be influenced by various prog metal bands, such as Queensrÿche, Evegrey, Fates Warning, Dream Theater and Circus Maximus among others. I do not usually refer to a band’s influences, but in this occasion I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect.

The Ocean to release new studio album “Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic” on September 25th 2020

On September 25th, 2020, The Ocean will release their 8th full-length, “Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic”, via Metal Blade Records (CD / digital) and the band’s own Pelagic Records (vinyl).

In 2018, The Ocean released “Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic” - the first half of a sprawling but superbly cohesive paleontology concept album. Now, the group is ready to release the eagerly-awaited concluding parts of the Phanerozoic journey.

Osyron - Foundations

“Foundations” is the third outing from this young Canadian quintet (presently) that seems to have graduated their earlier releases, by upping everything that worked on “Harbinger” and “Kingsbane”. This extra-long EP seems to dwell long on historic themes, basically the fate of Canadian troops during WW1 and I am happy to see the more ponderous and prog oriented treatment they give to the subject, compared to other bands that choose to cover similar subjects.
