New Reality and Life on demand…

GR logoWell, one by one some countries are getting out of the lockdown and the people need to adjust to a “new reality”, as the leaders or governments used to say lately. It’s obvious that we can’t go back to the lives we used to live before the covid-19 pandemic, even if we wanted to.

The fear of the pandemic is still here… has not left the house, so we’d better be cautious and blindly follow the governments and scientists’ recommendations. We literarily get “bombarded” in the news about the covid-19 pandemic every hour or so. People are tired of all this. People want to be free and take care of their own things again, but fear is the better way to manipulate people and make them fight each other.

We’ve seen protests against the new covid-19 reality in every corner of the world. Why’s that? Why do they keep fighting? Why are they not afraid of the pandemic and deaths? Is the whole thing so well managed? Well none can answer “yes” to that. Again humanity is divided in two parties. The left party, who is more open minded and willing to do what the leaders say and the right party, who’s a bit more skeptical on this “new reality” and do not want to leave their old way of living so easily. The truth can be said in three simple words “divide and conquer”! Who’s right or who’s wrong. Who’s more careful and who’s not, who’s clever and who’s not and the list goes on…

And somewhere in-between lays the music industry – or to set it better our beloved music, which seems to have lost its dynamic and try to hold on to that “virtual reality” that we all forced to live in, whether we like it or not. Virtual concerts, live streaming and so on… you sit in front of your pc (tablet or smartphone) and you enjoy a concert, a live show etc. The live streaming platforms are the most successful business in the world right now. Hence a virtual music era is on the rise in a way!

Is this what we want from our lives and our music? Is this really what we want? To live inside a virtual world and do all the things we desire without having to move from our couch or bed? Do you actually recall any Festivals or live gigs? How did we communicate with each other? How did we get to know people that we had never seen in our lives before… how did we use to dance, sweat and party along with the bands? You can’t do that in the “new virtual world”, but we can go anywhere, do anything and enjoy all the goods just with a few clicks and by paying digital money! Now that’s something! We get to do so many things and at the end of the day we’ve done nothing than a few clicks and we have barely moved from the screen of your pc (smartphone or tablet).

Some will not like it, some will love it, some will be skeptical and some will be totally against it. We can do otherwise… the time is getting closer and we have to decide for our own fate and not let others do so for us. You either accept the “new reality” and revel in your new way of life or you claim what used to be yours and do your thing. Music will always be on our side no matter what…

PS1: Are you a believer or not? Do you believe in God or not? Do you trust people and science more than anything?!

PS2: This is the third and the last part that I deal with covid-19 and the “new reality”. Hope not to be “forced” to write again about it in the (near) future.

PS3: This month’s editorial is dedicated to the great vocalist and songwriter Brian Howe, who passed away on May 6th, at the age of 66, due to cardiac arrest. Brian is best known for replacing Paul Rodgers as the lead vocalist of Bad Company in 1986 up to 1994. Thx for the music Brian! Rest in Peace…
