Digital era…

GR logoWe’re living in a digital era. Everything is happening so fast and it must be transferred fast as well.
See the albums… no psychical promos anymore (around 99%), but mostly digital promos. You see they can be transferred and they cost nothing. The audio file are compressed, smaller and they can be uploaded and downloaded in a few seconds nowadays and to many more destinations (receivers). So why music labels should lose their time and money sending out any physical promos? That’s fine, apart from the audio issue; the compressed (MP3) files do not have the same quality with the wav files… but I do not think that the new generation cares about it at all. They have Spotify and YouTube where the files are even more compressed… so why care when a whole new generation has learned to listen to compressed (not good audio) music files?! So be it!
The same goes for the photographs. You see the high resolution photos are not that necessary anymore, cuz they will end up on a website that will reduce their resolution to as to put it online. It’s different to have a photo for a printed media and totally different for a digital one (webzine etc.). Then again, the photographers must do their job and get the best out of it… and take great band photos, no matter what. But most of their job is gone by unnoticed as the digital media won’t let you upload any photo that’s bigger than 1mb… when the average photo size is around 15-20 mb! How about that! The same goes for the resolution. A photo with a size of 1800x1200pix is considered super… but when it comes to printed media you need 2 or 3 times bigger than this!
This is the digital era, with its ups and downs. On the one hand you gain something (speed and economy) and one the other hand you lose something (quality)… either way you see it I think that people of our time prefer speed and economy over quality… to each their own!
