Johnny Casino releases new single “I Scare Myself”

“I Scare Myself” is the latest single from Johnny Casino, out now through Golden Robot Records. It was first brought Casino’s attention by the late great Michael Wilhelm, whom he had the privilege of playing many concerts with; and even recording various songs with. Michael was in San Franciscan band from the 60’s, The Charlatans, with the late and great Dan Hicks, who wrote “I Scare Myself” for his band Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks.

Says Johnny Casino:

The Waterboys live in Athens 2019

The rainy and miserable weather on the first night made me jokingly think the band should have opened with “It’s Gonna Rain”, but with torrents already pouring down, it might have been a bit of a self-fulfilled prophecy anyway… I ended up driving to the venue early – just to be on the safe side – where I made the acquaintance of some lovely people at the front bar-ier.

The Waterboys - Where the Action Is

I was reading a few reviews about this album, and one in particular stuck out. One from a newspaper, you know the 4-5 line ones, where you wonder if the reviewer even bothered listening to the album or just “googled” some and came up with some quote… the album was dismissed as sounding dated… in that case the band and it’s sizable audience must have been happily living out of the hip bubble for ages, but isn’t that what timelessness is?
