My Dying Bride - The Ghost of Orion

There’s something endearing in My Dying Bride’s entire discography and existence and that is and that is the fact that they’re one of the few bands of their ilk that started from England, some thirty years ago and managed to maintain their style and heaviness almost entirely intact, unlike Anathema, who turned into an impressive firework that burnt out too soon, leaving only embers in its wake and Paradise Lost, who seem to be going in circles, having forever lost the cool factor and songwriting that their earlier works had.

Paradise Lost to release new studio album “Obsidian” on May 15th 2020

Obsidian”… dark, reflective and black: it’s a pretty decent description of the music that Paradise Lost have been making over the last 32 years, even though this most resilient of British metal bands have stoically refused to be pinned down to one easily defined formula. Powered by a lust for creativity and a stout devotion to haunting heaviness, Paradise Lost have defied the odds by coming back stronger than ever over the past decade.

Crematory - Unbroken

It’s hard for me to consider several of the newer albums by Crematory, since they’re a band I was actually able to follow from their very early steps up to a certain point where I largely gave up on them only listening to their newer albums by chance or to review them. The long standing Germans, that will have been around for thirty years next year, have rather recently suffered the exit of several member, by now, leaving only singer Felix and the Jüllich couple (drums and keys), as original members.
