YEARNING
“EVERSHADE”
(Holy Records)
The truth is that I didn’t know many things about this band from Finland. I have only listen to some songs of their albums but never a whole album. So, when I took the CD in my hands, although that band was not in my firsts choices for a review (there are so many releases every month that honestly you don’t know from where to start) but when I looked at the mood, cold artwork of the album I finally decide to put it in my CD-player. And as it was proved the album satisfied very much. Yearning, has released a very good and inspired album. They know who to combine the influences that they had from the death metal, gothic, atmospheric and in general dark music, without becoming boring at all. Well, to give you a small example for Yearning’s music just imagine Arcturus without the fast parts in their songs combined with the atmospheric music parts of Winds! Yes, as you have guessed, Palomäki’s vocals are sounding so insane, dark and psycho that you feel that you are inside a nightmare and everything seems to be going pretty fuckin’ slow…. very slow! Even the brutal vocals in some songs will not bother you at all as they are also part of the same insanity! The music of this album is very dark, depressing and melancholic that there is no way not to grab your attention or to skip a single track. The production also is very strong but on the other hand is a kind of dark… and that’s why this album is so mysterious. Also I must refer to the orchestrations of the songs, which are very smart and enriched by many instruments. I won’t tell you which are the best songs of this album, cause if you listen to a song apart from the others you will “break” the gloomy atmosphere that it has. “Evershade” is a pretty good atmospheric album from a band that has all the potentials to become a more known name in its genre.
According to this work, they deserve it!

YYRKOON
“OCCULT MEDICINE”
(Osmose)
Yyrkoon is a band coming from France and since now I have never heard of
them, although they were formed in 1995, they have played live with some
more popular bands like Septic Flesh, Misanthrope and others and “Occult
Medicine” is their third album! The band plays brutal death metal, but
there are also many thrash metal influences adding their personal style. All
the guys of the band are very technical and their music is powerful and
includes a few melodic moments. The guitars (Geoffrey Gautier and Stιphane
Souteryrand) are fast, aggressive and you will have the opportunity to
listen to many technical riffs and solos. The killing rhythm section (Victorien
Vilchez on bass and Dirk Verbeuren on drums) will make your head banging
with no mercy! The vocals are brutal, but they are appropriate for this
music… The album is full of energy and anger and you will understand this
from the very first track (“Doctor X”), which is one of the best tracks
of the album! The production is very clean and generally, I was pleased by
the sound. This album sounds fresh and dangerous and the lovers of the fast
and technical death/thrash metal will surely appreciate it. I even enjoyed
it very much, although I am not a die-hard fan of this kind of music...
Listen to the following tracks: “Blasphemy”, “Revenant Horde” and
“Reversed World”.
