UDO /
INNER WISH

|
Saturday night and all the fans of metal music gathered in Rodon club to see UDO and Inner Wish who were the support band. I was really anxious to see Inner Wish live again in almost two years period especially after their new excellent album. The
Greek band opened the live show at 8:30 (if I remember well) and offered
us for almost one hour good heavy/power metal music. They played most of
the songs from their latest album “Silent Faces”, and that is very
logical as that live show was the best opportunity to promote their work
especially to those Greek fans that have listened to them before… thing,
which is unacceptable for me. Inner Wish played truly good and they seemed
too tight as a band on stage. The sound was good (although sometimes it
had too much bass) and they looked like they have been enjoying playing in
front of the Greek fans again. We listened to “Silent Faces”,
“Dancer Of The Storm”, “Hold On”, “Midnight Call”,
“Spacerunner”. “Ready For Attack” (the crowd sings along with the
singer the chorus of the song!), “Carry Your Cross” and “If I Could
Turn Back Time”. Of course the songs here are presented in random order
and it is very possibly that I forgot a couple of songs that they played
that night. But the good thing is that the band played very well and many
fans seemed to be interested to listen to their albums. That’s the good
part of the story. The guys of the band are very nice persons and also
good musicians and they really love what they are doing and are enjoying
every single piece of it. As the guitarist of the band, Thimios, told me
afterwards Inner Wish are willing to give many live shows during the
summer time so, the next time they play near you do not loose the chance
to see them live cause you will enjoy it and that’s for sure. At 10 o’clock the time had come for UDO to appear on stage. The club wasn’t full till then but I can see more people coming as the hour’s passes. I have seen them back in 2002 at Hania Festival and although they played good I wasn’t crazy too see them again… but I was proved wrong afterwards! Udo is a living legend and one of the best performers in the heavy metal music whether some like it or not. That’s the truth! They opened the show with “Thunderball” the first song from their homonymous new album and the party already begun! They delivered the goods, for two hours, with songs like “Pull The Trigger”, “The Bullet And The Bomb”, “Blind Eyes”(do not forget that they also have a new album to promote which is really good), and some older stuff like “Holy” (Udo appears like a monk on the stage!), “Man And Machine” (Udo appears like he’s half man and half machine!), “Animal House”, “Independence Day”, “Run For Cover”, and from the Accept era “Restless And Wild”, “I’m A Rebel”, “Son Of A Bitch”, “Metal Heart” (a real panic! Everyone is singing the melody of the guitar and screams along with Udo “Metal Heart”… Metal Heart”… Udo is actually a great performer!), “Balls To The Wall”, “Neon Nights”, “Fast As A Shark” (another panic the whole club is shakin’ up and down!!) and “Princess Of The Dawn”… on of my all time favourite songs… and we are banging our heads with mania… excellent songs, excellent performance, excellent live show! I surely forget to mention some songs, and surely the songs that I mentioned before are not in the right order but… who really cares?! It is impossible for me to transfer you the atmosphere of the specific live show. Those who attended can understand that. UDO gave an excellent show and they proved that they are professionals and that they love heavy metal music. Udo is one hell of a performer and he made us sing many times along with him. I’m so glad that I attend to the specific live show and I got the chance to have a conversation with a living legend of our beloved music! You will read more in the interview that Udo gave me. I can only say for the end that all those people who didn’t come to that live show should already have regret it. No one believed that it could be so good and believe me that it was much better that I can describe it. I won’t loose any other live appearance of Udo again and that’s for sure. I hope that you will do the same too… by Thanos Aggelakis |
