SURPRISE OF NOVEMBER 2005

EWIGKEIT
“CONSPIRITUS”

(Earache)

Ewigkeit is the brainchild of the british multi-instrumentalist/vocalist James Fogarty. Although I’m not familiar with the band’s back catalogue, it took me a while to listen to this album, ‘cause I thought that it was going to be another brutal metal album with screams and uninspired music in general... but when I finally put the CD in the CD-player I was astonished by the very first listening... and I must apologize to James ‘cause I didn’t expect to listen to something so interesting and inspired. This album is surely the surprise of the month for me!

The hard part with this album is that it’s not so easy to describe the music that James has composed. I would rather call it a mixture of many music styles such as metal, gothic, prog metal, electronic, sample music, atmospheric rock, folk rock etc... the final music result will bring on your mind bands like Pink Floyd, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Entwine, White Zombie, Fear Factory... so take a musical characteristic of each band and mix it with electronic, folk music... and what do you have? Of course Ewigkeit (it’s the German word for “eternity”)! I do not know if my description was clear enough but I know that this musical combination sounds really exciting! James voice is like you are hearing Nick Holmes singing along with Roger Waters!

The production of the album is very heavy and powerful and was made by John Fryer (Depeche Mode, N.I.N, White Zombie, Marilyn Manson, H.I.M, Cradle Of Filth, Paradise Lost, Fear Factory). My beloved tracks of this album , if I was to choose some, are: “It’ Not Reality”, “Far Away From Heaven”, “Transcend The Senses”, “The Thought Police”, “How To Conquer The World” and “Theoreality”. I would recommend this album to those who do not like to compromise in their lives and like to mix things up for their own good of course... if you like electronic, heavy, atmospheric, psycho music then this is your new beloved album!
