SURPRISE OF MAY 2005

BRUCE DICKINSON
“TYRANNY OF SOULS”

(Mayan/ Sanctuary)

Seven years have pasted since Bruce’s last solo album. The fans of Bruce have certainly been anxious about this moment... During these seven years Bruce has returned to Iron Maiden, released two albums with them and played in hundreds of live shows around the world. When he returned to Iron Maiden I remember him promising, to an interview that I had read, that he will not stop releasing solo albums and he kept his promise, even if seven years is a long time...

For once again Bruce has composed all tracks together with Roy Z, who has played all the guitars and made the production (which is heavy, clean and professional as always...). The album begins with an instrumental track (just like on “Accident Of Birth”) and after this the first track begins with a heavy riff... The vocals of Bruce sound so fresh and theatrical that I really can say nothing about them! The guitars are also amazing and the moments, which will remind you of the classic Maiden guitars, are very few... You will be able to listen to melodic and acoustic guitars together with fast guitars and heavy memorable riffs! The rhythm section (Ray “Geezer” Burke and Juan Perez on bass and David Moreno on drums) is very heavy and powerful. The keyboardist (Maestro Mistheria) is really amazing, because the sounds he creates are really touching... I don’t know where does Bruce finds his partners each time, but I know that he can find good and talented musicians... The best track of the album is for sure the “Navigate The Seas Of The Sun”, which is the “Tears Of The Dragon” of 2005, as the webmaster has correctly mentioned, and I would only add that this is the track that will mark Dickinson on our present decade!

The artwork is from a painting of Hans Hemling (15th century) and as you can see it is very nice, but it is also appropriate for the lyrics, which are for once again clever and are mainly mentioned to hell and death... Generally, this is a more easy-listening album than “Chemical Wedding”, but without any lack in the quality! I would also dare to say that this is the best solo album that Dickinson has released so far! The fans of Bruce would have already bought it. As for the rest, do you really want to miss one of the best albums of 2005?!!
