SURPRISE OF JULY 2007

LILLIAN AXE
“WATERS RISING”

(Metro City Records)

This was another unexpected re-union… but who would have thought that Lillian Axe was still alive after almost 14 years in the mind of Steve Blaze? Steve hadn’t told his last words with “Psychoschizophrenia”, so here we are in 2007 with a brand new Lillian Axe album… without Ron Taylor behind the mic… Steve is the only original member here, but on the other hand he is the heart and the soul of Lillian Axe… who can disagree with that?

Those who are familiar with the band’s previous works know that Lillian Axe is not a band that likes to repeat itself… every new album explores new music paths and offers different emotions and pictures to the audience. Steve still proves that is a gifted songwriter and his vision cannot be stopped easily. Yes, I know that Ron is a very talented singer but who can tell that he is not totally satisfied with the new vocalist Derrick LeFevre? Do not wait to listen here something similar to “Poetic Justice” or “Love & War” etc… this is a totally new “project”… Steve is a musician that’s not stuck in the past and takes his creativity a step further.

Maybe some will complain ‘cause this album does not remind them this or that album of the past but what’s the point on that? I must admit that I had to listen to the album more than 7-8 times to get into it… and I really enjoyed in the end. After all Lillian Axe was never a band of hit songs and will never be one… Lillian Axe offers quality and inspiration through its music… and they did it once again… well done! Highlights of the album are without any doubts: “Quarantine”, “I Have To Die, Goodbye”, “Fields Of Yesterday” and “Deep In The Black”.
