SURPRISE OF JULY 2005

REVEREND BIZARRE
“II CRUSH THE INSECTS”

(Spikefarm)

The second album for the Finish doom metallers Reverend Bizarre is a fact! I met the band when it re-released its debut album a few months ago and I really loved its sound! This new album is very heavy and very doomy and the average track length is about 9 or 10 minutes! The tracks are very slow (although that there are some fast/rock’ n’ roll moments again) and the vocals of Albert Witchfinder are again very dark. In my ears, he sometimes sounds like he is mourning... Listen for example the tracks “Slave Of Satan” and “Fucking Wizard” and you will feel like watching a real funeral! The band’s influences are still the same: Candlemass, Trouble, Pentagram, Saint Vitus and Black Sabbath, of course. To tell you the truth some parts of the album reminded me so much of Black Sabbath that I believe that the band has composed the particular parts to pay their respects to the fathers of the doom sound... If you give yourselves the chance to listen or buy this album you will feel great when you discover the particular parts. The guitars (Peter Vicar) are slow, very heavy and reminded me of the aforementioned bands. The rhythm section is very heavy too and the bass (Albert again) sound is ready to blow your head off! This is one of the best doom metal releases of the year, so the fans should hurry up in order to get this album... As for the rest, I cannot recommend any tracks, because all eight tracks (six new and two previously released tracks: “Doom Over The World” and “Fucking Wizard”), which are included here, are really very good!
