SURPRISE OF FEBRUARY 2006

BEYOND THE VOID
“I AMYOUR RUIN”

(Fear Section)

I remember listening to this band almost two years ago and although I like them I knew that their debut album was only their ticket to gothic rock music... and I was pretty sure, as I have written on my review back then, that this band would surprise us nicely in the near future. “I Am Your Ruin” is by far a better album than the band’s debut, more mature, professional and with better, darker and catchy songs.

The production is excellent and the band seems ready to go even further. I like gothic rock music and especially I like bands that have something to offer to this genre and have darkness in their souls and are not fake goth rockers like so many others. Beyond The Void is a genuine dark gothic rock band that breathes only when night falls... and sings its sad song under the moonlight.

Do not try to characterize Beyond The Void as the new HIM of gothic rock music ‘cause that would be totally wrong. Yes, they are influenced from bands like HIM, Sentenced, The Rasmus, Within Temptation etc. but they have given their own personal stigma to their music. Songs like “Defiance To The End”, “Ruinborn”, Reality Won’t Do”, “Nothing”, “The Deeper We Fall”, “World Dies With Me”, “Until Dawn Shall Us Part” and “Time To Repent”, will give you a dark, frozen melancholic touch to your gray lives… If you consider yourself to be a genuine gothic rocker then you should get “I Am Your Ruin” right away... ‘cause whether you like it or not... Beyond The Void is in the premier league with this release and is far better than some other wannabe gothic rock groups that lead the genre right now. They have released a wonderful depressing album that surely it deserves to be considered as the Surprise album of the month.
