SORROWFUL WINDS

LIVE AT LAZY CLUB,

ATHENS

JULY 27th, 2006

Before I start writing about the live show of the band I must say that this was the third time that they guys played at Lazy club in the same month (they also played some gigs away from Athens) so this was my last chance to see them live (before the summer break) because I missed them the two previous times.

I knew that the guys were pretty good but I couldn’t imagine that they would surprise me in such a good way with their live performance. I arrived at the club about 22:30 , found the two guitarists outside the club and after a small chat I entered the club. At that time the club was not full but as time was passing by more and more fans of the band (and fans of good music generally) were coming. Finally after an hour or so the club was full and the band started playing.

Their setlist was based mostly on cover songs where, among others, we listened to songs from: Judas Priest, Scorpions, Foreigner, Kiss, Blue Oyster Cult, UFO,U2, Deep Purple, Savatage, etc. The covers were fantastic and all the band members gave 100% of their selves. The band is very tight and it seems that they have played a lot together in order to achieve so good results. The last live show of the band was a night to remember ‘cause everyone at the club was having a good time and was enjoying the music. The sound was good and the band gave us rock n’ roll lessons! The two guitarists Thanasis and Stavros were excellent, Thanasis also played the keys and he sung in one song, the vocalist Alexis was terrific, not only he has a unique high pitched voice but he is also a very good frontman, the bassist Thanasis was incredible and so very cool as well and he was enjoying the whole show. Drummer Chris was steady and very good technically. I must also mention that an old friend of the band was there (he is also the band’s webmaster) and the other guys invited him and he sung two songs - he was pretty good. The band also played a new song from the up-coming promo CD that is going to be recorder in August - a very good heavy melodic song.

I do not remember how many hours have passed but the band was playing for over 2 and a half hours and everyone seemed to enjoy the show. I have to tell to all those who didn't attend that they missed one of the best Greek (live and not only) bands and, why not, one of the highest European heavy metal hopes. I believed that the time is near and the band will become more popular with its next album ‘cause it deserve it.

Whenever you hear that Sorrowful Winds is playing near your hometown do not mss the chance to see them- they totally rule on stage! I cannot wait to listen to the new material of the band… but the best is yet to come and thankfully we will have the chance to talk about the band in the near future… till then… visit the band’s site for more info at: www;sorrowfulwinds.gr and remember that: Heavy Metal is the Law!
