When I first saw the names of this release I instantly thought of “The Stone House” album which was released early in February 2017; this time one musician, the bassist Stavi, is missing and the four have become a trio. As the press release says, “The Stone House” was released first but was actually recorded second during a marathon six-day 2016 series of sessions that will ultimately yield more than the three albums initially planned.

Well, it may be outrageous but do you actually get this?! The guys managed to record music for three (or more?) albums in six days; the albums were composed at the moment of playing with no music written down or rehearsed. That’s not strange at all for musicians like Mark Wingfield (Jane Chapman; solo artist, etc.), Markus Reuter (Stick Men, The Crimson ProjeKct, Centrozoon) and drummer Asaf Sirkis (Tim Garland, Mark Wingfield, Nicolas Meier). The album was recorded live in the studio with no overdubs and minimal editing, by Jesus Rovira at La Casa Murada Studios, it was mixed by Mark Wingfield & Markus Reuter at Heron Island Studio and mastered by Mark himself later.

The music is a blending of styles like atmospheric, jazz-rock, prog rock, jazz/fusion, ambient & psychedelic, most likely like the first one… nevertheless, this time I could say that the final outcome is somewhat more distinctive and progressive than before. “Lighthouse” showcases how improvisation must be done when there’s actually imagination and talent. I know that this ain’t an easy album to listen to, but it can be appreciated not only by musicians… but from music lovers in general… only if they give it spins and time.
