Around 2012 Texan guitarist, singer & songwriter Lance Lopez was planning a visit to Los Angeles to record a new album and it was in that place that he hooked up with bassist & producer Fabrizio Grossi (Steve Vai Glenn Hughes, Dave Navarro, Joe Bonamassa, Leslie West, etc.) and they both worked on three tracks which set the basis of what afterwards became Supersonic Blues Machine. The puzzle was completed with the addition of the extraordinaire drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Smashing Pumpkins, Meat Loaf, John Fogerty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.).
Musically, “West of Flushing, South of Frisco” balances between the modern and the old-school blues-rock music along with various rock & roll, bogie, classic rock & gospel elements. There’s something for everyone here… from the old-schoolers to the modern ones who fancy their blues-rock a bit more contemporary with fresh touches. With the brightness this modern-day production has, it makes the final outcome even more enthralling.
Want more? I bet you do! Well, add the guest appearances by Billy F. Gibbons (ZZ Top) on “Running Whiskey”, Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule) on “Remedy”, Chris Duarte (Chris Duarte Group) on “That’s My Way”, Eric Gales (aka Raw Dawg) on “Nightmares and Dreams”, Walter Trout on “Can’t Take It No More” and Robben Ford (Chick Corea, Gregg Allman Band, L.A. Express) on “Let’s Call It a Day” and you have all the puzzle pieces complete.
Well, it’s not a brain-teaser… when you put 3 superb musicians together along with a bunch of renowned guests then you get the best you can. If you like both the classic & the modern expansions of blues rockin’ music then this album will rock you for good…
