They seriously took my unawares. The first auditory experience left me thinking “Hey, this is interesting”, the second one “there is definitely something in this album” and after the third…swell! “A Far Cry From Home” is an atmospheric prog rock album delivering various soulful soundscapes. The melodies presented are harmoniously mixed with strong guitar solos and the bass is providing a dynamic session followed by the drummer, beating out diverse rhythms. Their musical approach reminds me of Pink Floyd every so often yet they are not copycats. And now it is only fair to meet those music enchanters… Stolen Earth are: Heidi Widdop on vocals ,acoustic guitar and low whistle, Adam Dawson on lead guitar and vocals, Paul Teasdale on bass guitar and vocals, Barry Cassell on drums and John Sykes on keyboards.

Particularly captivating songs (at least the ones reflecting my own preference): “Unnatural Disaster”, “Soul in a Jar”, “Mirror Mirror”, “Tuscany Sun”, “Silver Skies” and “Perfect Wave” (almost 10 minutes). The rest of the tracks are also well-written and performed thus, I suppose music fans who long for atmospheric themes and melodious passages will be equally delighted listening to them. There was one more thing that caught my attention… the songs are properly arranged; the transition from one song to the next is imperceptible at times. I felt “A Far Cry From Home” flows smoothly but you must give it several listening sessions to fully value it. Stolen Earth raised a high standard with their first album and I will only hope they keep up the good work and deliver inspirational music in the future to come. Recommended for atmospheric rock aficionados by all means.
