Mass-producing symphonic metal, Sweden presented The Murder of My Sweet, founded by Daniel Flores - both drummer and producer, in 2006. Their debut album, “Divanity”, was released in 2010 and it was an instant success in their own country. The rest of the team is: Angelica Rylin on vocals, Teddy Westlund on bass and Christopher Vetter on guitars. Responsible for keyboards is Daniel Flores as well, replacing Andreas Lindahl.
Upon listening to their second work “Bye Bye Lullaby” I stopped being hesitant (there have been far too many symphonic metal bands out there – Sweden is dominating) in that it is indeed a good one. Influences by Within Temptation were in a way expected yet what blew me away was those tiny bits of Queen embracing their own music identity. Angelica’s voice is a reflection of her name and the lyrics she delivered are notable. Particularly captivating songs here are: “Fallen”, “Unbreakable” (both have refrains you can easily sing along), “Idolize”, “Kind of Lousy”, “Resurrection”, “Waiting for the 27th”, “Black September” and “Phantom Pain”. Personally, the last four of the songs mentioned are really the best ones.
To put it in a nutshell, full marks to The Murder of My Sweet for they have nice song arrangements and all of them have added up to an album worth spending time listening to. The band is a lot better than some supposedly top ones. We hope their third work will either rival this one or even surpass it.
