Heaven Rain was formed in 2006 and it’s coming from Bosnia. Well, it’s not a country where you’d expect to find some hard n’ heavy music but that doesn’t mean the underground scene there is not growing little by little.
This is the sophomore release of the band where they blend melodic metal, with symphonic, hard rock, progressive (very few elements) and power metal. They are influenced by acts like: Masterplan, Keldian, Within Temptation, Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Cain’s Offering, Nightwish, Avantasia and so on, especially on the heavy melodic side of those bands. They have a female singer who has a distinctive, not so close to my preference, voice and their song-arrangements have lots of synths and piano parts. Songs such as: “Dreamless”, “My Only One”, “Second Sun”, “When Day Fades to Dark” & the ballad “Nowhere” are working well for them, while the more heavy/power ones are not on the same level as the aforementioned tunes. I also think (cuz this is a promo) that the production is kinda hollow and not as powerful as it should have been for a release of that genre.
Surely, you can find some fine moments in “Second Sun” and although I didn’t know this band at all… I think that they won’t disappoint those who are fond of female-fronted melodic heavy/power bands in general. This is a solid work and also more interesting than some well-advertised female-fronted bands of the last months.
