GY!BE have gained quite some popularity since 1994 when they started with their so called post- rock, chaotic, atmospheric – whatever you like it to be music. So far so good… even though I was never into this music style and never truly endeavored to get into this band.
Their loyal fans had been waiting for almost a decade so as to hear their new musical work. I do not know if they are totally satisfied but as it far as I’m concerned, once again I’ll be the one to blame and be hated by some of you.
I’d like to “understand” this kind of music where you have to wait patiently, listening to some noises & sounds here and there and waiting for a conclusion that never comes in the end. I’d call it progressive, even evolutionary, even out of this planet if you wish too… but the fact that this ain’t music does not change. It’s a mix of atmospheric sounds, noises, resonances, echoes, with some actual playing… but then again all these repetitive & monotonous themes… that last rather long… destroy any chances of enjoying several good ideas here and there. I do not know how many of you can listen to it again and again, even in your car or whenever you feel like listening to music… but I think that this odd, tedious, repetitive, droning and chaotic music is not meant to be for several listens at any time of the day.
The production is great, the guys who did the mixing (the members have also contributed to that) must have been very cautious and persisting, for it does take time to mix all these weird sounds together. Definitely, GY!BE is not an ordinary band… but I can’t help but say that sometimes it is like they’re trying to define the art of boredom & monotony…
