Furyon is a newcomer from the UK that after a sellout tour and the “Underdog” EP… it released its debut album back in 2010. The press reaction was good back then… especially from the UK press. Now, almost 2 years later… Frontiers records is re-serving it with two bonus acoustic tracks (“Voodoo Me” & “Souvenirs”).
The band is balancing between hard rock and metal music…with many alternative and some various grunge elements. They sound quite modern… bringing to mind bands like: Creed, Shinedwon, Alice In Chains, Hinder, Alter Bridge, Downspirit and so on at times. The weird thing with this band is that they sound too modern for the classic hard rockers and too classic for the modern ones. This is the most generic album I’ve heard in a while. It has some good moments but the plain vocal lines do not make them shine at any point. That mix of 80s and 90s hard rock music is not so harmonic as it seems to be in the first place. Moreover, the few long songs are very boring… and do not serve any purpose… other than making the listening more uninteresting. What do they need? Surely… better & more decent songwriting and to decide… if they are modern or not… in the end of the day… that balance right on the edge isn’t making things any better. The production is very good and heavy though… as it was taken care by the producer Rick Beato (Shinedown, Fozzy, NeedToBreathe). Maybe that’s the reason why it sounds too contemporary in my ears.
It seems that they have some potential… but a very long and hard way… to go. I do not validate all those that praise them… that’s not a way to help a band…it’s a way to make them burn out sooner… than they should.
