The Empire Strikes is a newcomer from Finland which started in 2012. After the release of two EPs & various live shows, the guys started working on their debut full-length album. The band has several influences from the Scandinavian rock & roll scene and from bands like The Hellacopters, Gluecifer, Imperial State Electric, The Flaming Sideburns and so on. Of course, the roots of this kind of music are in the late 60s/early 70s but that’s another story. Moreover, the guys have added a few early NWOBHM elements to their music, thing which makes the final outcome even more desirable at places. The production is rockin’ and in-your-face.
“1983” is a very good album on the whole. All the tracks are enjoyable to listen to and particularly “The Ballad of Sailor Hawkins” and “Thunder” showcase that this band has got what it takes to go further. Additionally, the guys are not afraid to play live gigs wherever they are invited to. That’s why they have given 18 live shows in 7 different countries this year.
The Empire Strikes is a talented band which has the attitude and the skills to deliver the rock & roll music of the “new age”. If you do fancy this kind of music then give these guys a chance and you won’t regret it. After all, what will the future of our beloved rock music hold if there isn’t any “new blood”? The fans’ support is mandatory especially on the first steps of every new band…
