DieVanity
Ordinary Death of Something Beautiful

7/10
DieVanity are coming from Italy and they have released only one EP, “Objects in Mirror are Closer than They Appear”… although they had been formed in 2006. After several live shows and the EP… they started recording their debut album. Having various influences from bands like: HIM, Negative, The 69 Eyes, Charon, Reflexion among others… they have obtained a more Scandinavian gothic rock, embellished with metal, atmospheric, hard rock, alternative, modern rock, pop-rock, love metal (hehe-what?!-this is so gay!) elements, music style. They look more on the commercial side of this genre and that’s quite noticeable.

This album is actually good… as it has a very strong production, it is well-performed and has all those features that the fans of this genre will fancy in the end. Surely, it is addressing mostly to the younger fans of that music style that like modern sounds, gothic rock melodies and general seem to enjoy the Finnish/Scandinavian scene.

What I do not like is the modern HIM-like orientation they have at times and their more modern rockin’ tunes… but what I truly relish is the nice melodies they have on the mellower songs such as: “Deadline”, “The Flag”, “What We Call Love” & “Ordinary Death of Something Beautiful” and their melodic more atmospheric, gothic rock side on tracks like: “Soldiers” & “A Chance to the Night”. “Ordinary Death of Something Beautiful” is actually a strong debut release to enter the gothic rock genre and they seem to have the potential to go on… they need to make a big “hit” in their next album and then things will be better for them… so better not let this album go by if you’re into this kind of music…
