DGM - Momentum

There’s a weird story behind this band. They have been around for almost 20 years, they were an instrumental band, named after the original names of its members but since 2006 there’s been no one of those founding members in the band!
Moving on the prog/power metal field, DGM are blending elements form acts like: Symphony X, Masterplan, Vanden Plas, Beyond Twilight, Pagan’s Mind, Adagio and so on. I just wanna give you a hint of where the band is leaning to. Certainly, watching the video below is a better way to get an idea yourself. The performances are all superb, the band executes in high level and they have a “speedy approach” most of the times. The very tight, crunchy and vigorous production is helping the whole result further. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni (the band’s guitarist) at Domination Studios in San Marino, Italy. There are also two guest appearances here, one by Russell Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob) and the other by the guitar virtuoso Jorn Viggo Lofstad (Pagan’s Mind).
“Momentum” has all those features that prog/power metal fans lap up. Amazing guitar/synth solos, fast pounding rhythms, great vocals and generally a heavy yet melodic style. Even though all those things are rather tempting, I do think that the album lacks in parts of diversity and catchiness. A bit variety in the song style would have been more longed-for, as we get about the same thing for about an hour or less. Nevertheless, this album is very good and the fans of the genre will surely be delighted…
