PAIN OF SALVATION

Pain Of Salvation visited Greece a small period after the release of the magnificent “Be” and all the prog fans of Athens and not only were there to see the band on the stage! Our friends, Aris and Vaggelis, were also there before the live show and talked with the keyboardist of the band Fredrik Hermansson and they managed to visit the band in the hotel the day after the show, and to talk with the mastermind of the band Daniel Gildenlow, as well... Read below the basic parts of this interview.

Hello Daniel and Fredrik, first of all welcome to Greece and congratulations for your new album “ Be”. We ‘ve chosen it as the best release of September on Grande-Rock.com!

Daniel Gildenlow: Thank you very much.

How do you feel playing live in Greece for the second time… or for the second and half actually?

D: I’m very happy to play in Greece, cause we managed to come back in a short period after the Open Air that, unfortunately, didn’t happened. Many people bought tickets to see us. We called it Omicron Open Wound!

In every album you have some songs that specify the album style like: “(Revival) Nightmist” and “People Passing By” from Entropia, “Handfull Of Nothing” &  “The Big Machine” from “One Hour By The Concrete Lake”, “Used & Idioglossia” from  “Perfect Element”, “Beyond The Pale” & “Trace Of Blood” from Remedy Lane ... from the new album “Be”, which songs can specify the “Be” style?

Fredrik Hermansson: I don’t think that we can find these kind of songs in “Be”.

Is Greece a good market for Pain Of  Salvation?

D: Yes , I thimk it is . I remember that all of a sudden the perfect element pt1 poped up in our greek sells chart ! The Sweden woke up when the 12:5 released!

Did you enjoyed last night in Rodon? The same as we did?

D: Very much! We almost didn’t spent any of our energy because the audience gave us a lot of feedback, it was giving our energy back and we could spent more and more! Actually, I think it was the best show I ever saw! I was kidding with the guys that in the future when we’ll make a tour we’re going to have, Germany, Greece, Poland, Greece, France, Greece … just to charge our batteries!

Are you happy with your co-operation with the Inside-Out?

F.H.: Yes , we’re totally happy with them, the most important thing is that they trust us , and we trust them!

In the future, is there any chance to see you live with the orchestra of Eternity?

D: We don’t know yet but we’re working very hard to manage a tour with the orchestra of Eternity.

How did you come up with the idea of making a song like “Vocari Dei”? It’s really an amazing concept!

D: I wanted to show the relation of the man kind with the God or the superior force whatever. The first idea was to write down some messages and have some people to read them, then I said why not make a messenger so people can leave their messages to God. The rules were simple you could joke, be angry, be happy or whatever you want to be. I think the result was very good and true!

Daniel do you believe in God?

D: I think that is impossible to answer that question. I will explain it to you in a weird way… let’s say that the whole universe is in a hard-drive, let’s pretend that life is a binary and there are two states of being 0 and 1, 1 will be life and 0 the death so we can have zero zero zero zero one and then zero again… (interviewers note: Daniel explains us the man living in a computer language , very interesting but it’s not on the substance...)

You have changed your musical style in “Be” … do you think that was kind of risky for the band?

D: It’s not that we changed our musical style, I think that we changed the “dress” of the music and that’s because of the concept of course, the co-operation with the orchestra and we had to change our way.

You have taken part in the ProgPower, Headway and some other festivals . What did you gain from your participation?

D: It is always good to do festivals because more people are getting into your music who have never listened to you before!

Thank you very much for your time… Leave a message to Grande-Rock readers and to Greeks in general for the end!

D: Special for Greece, honestly, they are the best crowds at least for us. I can only hope that they all be part of the Pain Of Salvation family! Hopefully we will come back in March! Be there nice crowds!
