OATHEAN
“FADING AWAY INTO THE GRAVE OF NOTHINGNESS”
(The End)
Does South Korea have a black metal scene? If you are curious about this,
the answer is yes! Oathean is coming from Seoul and was formed in 1997 or to
become more specific they changed their name from Odin (formed in 1993) to
Oathean in 1997. This new album is the forth full-length release for the
band that plays melodic black/death metal. The album will straight catch
your attention because of the very clean production and the nice- melodic
music. Here you can find heavy riffs (Do-Su Kim who also sings and Hee-Doo
Lee) and black metal guitars, many blastbeats and more slow moments, and
classic black metal vocals. The other part I liked much, apart from the
production, was the very good keyboards (Hye-Ryung Koo), which sometimes
create an amazing atmosphere, others just follow the guitars and others is
just like you listen to an orchestra following the band! Generally, the
music is very melodic in many parts, influenced from the Scandinavian black
and death metal scene, but there are also some straight aggressive moments.
The only problem with this album is that these guys have nothing new to
offer to the melodic black/death metal scene and I think that they should
find their personal style in their next album... Anyway, you can listen to
this album and have a pleasant (or melancholic?) time.

OCCULT
“ELEGY FOR THE WEAK”
(Karmageddon Media)
The Dutch thrashers Occult are back with their fresh album “Elegy For The Weak”. I listened to the album carefully a couple of times but unfortunately I didn’t find something that could draw your attention. An uninspired mix of thrash/death metal, 10 aggressive high-tempo tracks full of stupid rage, fast but no catchy riffs and annoying death-ish vocals. Judging by the guitar playing and the general style, it’s obvious that the band has many influences from Slayer and Sepultura but nothing in common indeed. Ok they have speed, rage and good production but they forgot to add inspiration, thought, rhythm and tune to complete the magic formula, the key to success. A mediocre album offering just a big dose of aggression. The most thoughtful part of the album is the lyrics of course. Titles like “War Beast”, “Feel The Blade”, “Slaughtering The Pigs” (mercy guys) and “Slut Of Sodom” are so pleasant and full of meaning…. deepshit!!!! Relax guys don’t be so vicious. Your mission accomplished, you scared my 5-year-old cousin…

ODD MAN OUT
“IT ALL ENDS HERE”
(Casket)
This
is the debut album for the British band Odd Man Out, after releasing three
E.Ps and playing live many times since the year they were formed (2002).
Their music is a mixture of rock, alternative and punk sounds and they are
influenced from bands like Foo Fighters, Dead Kennedys, Alice In Chains,
Fugazi, Queens Of The Stone Age etc... The interesting part with this band
is that they recorded the album in their own home-studio, paid everything
themselves and they after signed with Casket Records! The four members of
the band seem to be sure for their skills and this can be seen in their
tracks, which sound fresh. I am not an expert for this particular sound, but
I found them interesting enough. The vocals (Pete) are clean and are
balancing between the standard punk and alternative vocals... The guitars
(Pete and Just) are aggressive in a punky way and are fresh enough. Finally,
the rhythm section (Dean on bass and Dave on drums), will sometimes remind
you of a rock band and others a punk or alternative band! The album is
self-produced, as I mentioned before, but you will be surprised from their
clear and professional sound! You will think that this is an expensive
production that was made in an expensive professional studio... Anyway, this
is a very good album for the lovers of the particular sound. You will surely
enjoy it!

OFFSPRING, THE
“SPLINTER”
(Columbia)
I bet that you all remember the big breakthrough that these guys done back in 1994 when they released "Smash". That album managed to sell about 11 million copies and to become one of the most popular albums in this genre! Not bad at all huh? But after "Smash", The Offspring didn't manage to release an album as good as that one and they lost the confidence of a big part of their fans. I think that now is the time to gain that confidence back, cause "Splinter" is that album which The Offspring should had released after "Smash". Yes, this album has all those elements that made them back in 1994 one of the most beloved and good-selling bands. Harmonious along with heavy guitar riffs, very smart lyrics, excellent production, steady rhythm section and memorable choruses. Just listen to songs like the powerful catchy "The Noose", the hit "Hit That" (which is the first single of the album), the groovy "The Worst Hangover Ever" (you must read the lyrics of this song!), the melodic semi-acoustic "Spare Me The Details", the punk-rocker "(Can't Get My) Head Around You", and the up tempo "Long Way Home", to understand that those guys are not kidding at all and they wrote the best songs they could, since 1994. One thing is for sure: the fans of the band will totally love "Splinter" and two or three songs of this album can become radio hits. If you are a fan of the band then grab "Splinter" right away. As for the others, they will listen to some songs of this album, from their radio.

OGRE
“DAWN OF THE PROTO-MAN”
(Wόrmhole Records)
Ogre welcomes you to the Heavy- Doom world! Ogre were formed in the late 1999 by Ross Markonish (guitars) and Will Broadbent (drums) in the U.S.A. Later they found Ed Cunningham who plays the bass and makes the vocals. This album was released last year, but only now came into my hands… Let me tell you about the band’s influences in order to take an idea of their music: Pentagram, Black Sabbath, Budgie, Blue Cheer, AC/DC and many more! So, as you can understand their music is extra Heavy and Doomy and has nothing in common with the bullshit bands, which call themselves stoner rock or shit like that! The 70’s heavy sound is still alive! The vocals will some times remind you of Bobby Liebling (Pentagram), others of Bon Scott (AC/DC) etc. and generally are very melodic… The production is very good and as for the heaviness I have nothing to say! The artwork is just great but I can’t remember where I have seen this picture or something similar before… Watch out the track “The Jaded Beast” which is like a funeral march and lasts for 10 minutes! “Dawn Of The Proto-Man” is a high-recommended album to all, and especially to those who believe that stoner music is heavy… And finally, I’m just telling you to follow the band’s advice and “Listen to this album as humanly possible”!!

EDDIE OJEDA
“AXES 2 AXES”
(Black Lotus)
For
those who are not aware (shame on you, you shouldn’t be reading this
site) Eddie used to be Twisted Sister’s guitarist and main composer, and
this is his first personal album. Now you must have guessed the content of
the CD, right? Yes, pure straight, traditional heavy metal in Twisted
Sister’s vain. In fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to state that
this could have been a new album of the legendary band. Of course
Eddie’s guitar work, riffs and solos play here the leading role. Fast
songs, atmospheric ones, ballads and instrumental thunders are the
elements of the album and I can tell you that fans of the sound will be
thrilled. After all we all yearn for some pure 80s revival once in a
while, right? Eddie here is also behind the microphone - doing it very
well. Plus Dio, Dee Snider and Joey Lynn Turner deliver one song each,
with amazing results. Extra note should be make to the amazing cover on
Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby”, which kicks ass! This could be a must but
for those who like traditional heavy metal!

OLETHRIO RIGMA
“O TROMOS TIS EXOUSIAS”
(Black Lotus)
Olethrio Rigma is one of the oldest punk/metalcore bands in Greece. “O Tromos Tis Exousias” is the fifth album for the band, which is almost well known in Greece. I am sure that the Greek fans of the band know exactly what to expect from them. For all the rest, who might not have heard of them in the past, I must say that the band plays metalcore with some punk influences. The vocalists (Nikos on brutal vocals and Emi on female/sick/out of tune vocals) sing with aggressive vocals that sound a little bad or strange to me, maybe because all of the tracks have Greek lyrics, which I don’t think they fit this kind of music… Anyway, the lyrics are also aggressive and criticize the politicians and their behavior/actions and generally, they protest against everything. The guitars (Nikos and Emi again) sound like you would expect them to sound from a metalcore band. The production isn’t as good as I expected and it was made at the Praxis Studios (Greece). The best song of the album is the first track (“Into The Fucking Death”), which is an instrumental one… This album is only advised to people in Greece who love this band, because I don’t think that anyone abroad will be seriously interested in
them...

101 SOUTH
"ROLL OF THE DICE"
101
South is the side project of Roger Scott Graig, who is the keyboardist of
Harlan Cage. "Roll Of The Dice is their second album that they release,
and once again they play excellent melodic rock. Although is the second album
that Roger has released in the same year, I must say that it sounds very fresh
and it has many great songs such as, the very good "What's Your
Game", the homonymous "Roll Of The Dice", the atmospheric
"Don't Stop Believing, the amazing "Borderline" and the very
emotional ballad "Dark Cloud On The Horizon". Also I
think that the voice of Gregory (who is the singer of the band) is a little
bluesier and higher than the voice of Harlan Cage's Larry. And in this point I
should inform you that also the rest of the songs are very exciting. This
album is for sure one of the best of this year in its genre of course. All
that you have to do is to buy "Roll Of The Dice" and enjoy with the
great music that Roger is composing. Ahh, and I must not forget to thank Roger
for giving us such a great music! What are you still waiting for? Just buy
immediately this album and just push the "play" on your cd-player.

1208
“TURN OF THE SCREW”
(Epitaph)
1208 succeed in doing what Die Hunns failed to do: they play kick ass, in your face punk, rock ‘n’ roll with guts. The thing here is that the band seems to have worked a lot on the compositions, so that they become very interesting and are not glued to the usual punk rock sound. Not that they play anything innovative, or that they will turn the punk rock sound upside down, but the music here is good, rigorous, youthful and guarantees a good time. At times the sound is close to that of Offspring, as it uses many metal forms and elements (and many riffs as well - listen to “Smash The Badge”). As a whole we get a nice package of high-school punk rock with multiple vocals, suitable for some air time on the radios and perfect for some live shows at the club. To be honest every summer I like to have such a record, as it is easy listening and matches with the loose coming days (if
only...). So I guess that this summer I will stick to 1208’s record.

OPERA IX
“MALEVENTUM”
Opera IX is a band from Italy and "Maleventum" is the fourth release. The band plays black atmospheric metal, which is full of synths and many cliche ideas for the black metal scene. In my humble opinion the have many good elements in their songs like the bagpipe in the "Forgotten Gods" but they must compose some few minutes lasting songs cause it is very difficult to create interesting and not boring long play songs and few bands in the world have achieved this. If the music that you play is plainer there is no need to make a song lasts many minutes playing the same motive and keeping the same tempo. Also the production of the album is pretty good but personally I didn't like at all the way that the drums sound; don't have any depth and the sound is very flat. Anyway this is just a compassionate release and for sure you won't be sorry if you missed it. And I hope that someday many bands, which play black metal (and not only) to stop using all those stupid artworks with goats and satanic "scary" symbols! It's time to grow up and to deal more with the music and the lyrics. We're not little kids anymore! If Opera IX succeed to compose in the future a more poised and varied (especially in the tempo) album, then they will have many fans and their music will be more
interesting.

OPETH
“GHOST REVERIES”
(Roadrunner)
Album
number eight for one of the most successful bands of our time and under a
new label this time. Opeth have become one of the most intellectual bands
today and everyone who’s into music must listen to them even if he
doesn’t like them that much, just as it happens with Dream Theater. Once I
believed that this band could become the leading band in metal genre but now
I think that I was wrong. In order to be one of the best metal bands in the
world you do not need only to play magnificent music but to be humble, to
have self-awareness and to have conscious of what you are doing. Just like
Dream Theater, Opeth are living in their own world were fans are only their
power without caring about anyone else. I’m sorry to say that they have
become professionals by any means. They play “professional” music and
they have lost that magical spark that they once had.
That
doesn’t mean that “Ghost Reveries” is a bad album or something like
that. It’s just Opeth. It’s a well-played, well-produced and
well-structured album that only Opeth can release. It’s just that their
music has become not only predictable but also boring at times. There is no
fantasy in what they are doing and that’s more than obvious. They have
become the Dream Theater of their genre. They are producing music just to
produce it. They have that sophisticated musical style just for no reason.
They know that people consider them as a great band they simply became diva.
By
saying the above things I want to make clear that I do not only care for the
music but also for the human element. Opeth are still one of the leading
bands in metal society and they still can combine very well death metal
music along with prog rock of the 70’s but that does not mean that much to
me anymore. Yes, this album has got and will get great reviews from all over
the world and it well sell thousand of copies. Yes, everyone will praise
them again for being unique and for their musical skills. Yes, this album
has a flawless production yet again even though Steven Wilson is not anymore
with the band. Yes, everyone will say that they are the new big metal band
and things like that... but you can’t be that big when you have released 8
albums and you have not a classic release among them. You are a good
talented band that your selfishness didn’t let you go further just like
Dream Theater. Being a virtuoso player does not mean that you can easily
compose songs. That’s has nothing to do with the ability of songwriting
and vice versa.
By
getting older I can see things clearer than I used to, away from fanaticism
and childish narcissism. My musical criteria have changed a lot since I
started listening to rock/metal music and I can understand which band is a
professional with the bad term of the word and which band’s playing music
straight from the heart. Opeth are a professional band which understand that
music is a gold mine! Yes, it is but what’s the point in playing music
when you have to make fool of you self and of your fans after all? I
preferred them as a new surprising underground band than a big metal
opponent group.
A.S.’s note: Pioneering and
leading in a genre becomes a band with its 2nd-3d album (Dream Theater,
Angra, Paradise Lost, Tool, Helloween, not to go back and mention Iron
Maiden). If you are in your 8th album and you are still considered to be a
big hope to lead a genre... give it up. They are just a very good band.

OPUS ATLANTICA
"OPUS ATLANTICA"
Opus Atlantica is another project that was formed from Reinholz, who is the guitarist of Andromeda and Non Exist and also from Reingold, who is the bassist of Flower Kings. The band plays power metal music with lots of neoclassical elements and there are some good songs here like "Line Of Fire", which is simply the best song of the album and also the heavy "Edge Of The
World". But the rest of the songs were simply well performed with too many cliches and without having something new to offer to the fans of this genre. I know that it is a kind of difficult to find a good and inspired power metal album in our time, cause many albums are being released every month but the most of them do not deserve a penny! Opus Atlantica is not a bad project, but is a little bit far way form what Reinholz and Reingold are playing with their bands. I mean that in one hand Opus Atlantica don't have any
thrashy-death metal elements (ala Non Exist) and in the other hand no prog 70's elements (ala Flower Kings). That thing is not completely wrong but when I'm listening to this album my mind goes right away to bands like Rhapsody, or Malmsteen, or Rainbow, even though it would be very unfair to draw a parallel between Opus Atlantica and
them. I'm not trying to compare Opus Atlantica with any of the bands above, but the fans of power metal music must be very pretentious from a band of this music style.
I believe that, while the album is good, many albums like this one heave been released and they will be released in the future. And that thing doesn't mean that we should afford all those efforts cause in that case we will be run out of money!

ORANGE GOBLIN
“THIEVING FROM THE HOUSE OF
GOD”
(Rise Above)
What I like about this band is that it tries to differentiate its sound frequently enough, so that it
won’t end up repeating itself again and again. This is a remarkable effort, especially in the genre of hard rock/stoner where choices are rather limited. This is the case here. Psychedelic-isms of the early works, or Motorhead-like approach like that of
“Coup De Grace” are over. Instead we get a rather straightforward hard rock style. This change has possibly much to do with the departure of the one guitarist (Pete
O’Malley), which left the band with one guitar - the “old
fashioned” Joe Hoare. However
don’t be misled and think that the new approach has altered the “soul” of the band. You can distinguish the usual Goblin sound easily here too.
It’s just that this album owes much more to Free or Cream for example, rather than Sabbath. And as you might guess the balls of this album are big as usual. Goblin is an institution, even though it never became mainstream! If you are into this sound, bite it without further thought. Being
harsh...

ORANGE GOBLIN
"COUP DE GRACE"
If their name was "Green Goblin" they would have gained great publicity with the brand new "SpiderMan" film. But I don't think that this band needs any kind of such publicity! They possibly don't give a damn about it anyway. Their fourth length album finds them more mature and heavy as hell. Riffs are creeping within the mud (listen to "Made of Rats" and you will possibly recollect some early black Sabbath memories), but they manage not to be monotonous. In the contrary there are many slow/bluesy breaks (along with the heavy outbreaks) within the songs that give a wonderful variety in the album. No joking now guys this album is great yet different from what other bands of the genre play. Orange Goblin is among the top members of what came to be known as "stoner genre"! All their beloved roots are here: Black Sabbath, Trouble, Kyuss etc, presented with this unique Goblin feeling and imagination. I am sure that all fans of stoner rock (and definitely not only them) will adore this
album.

ORPLID
“STERBENDER SATYR”
(Auerback Tontrager)
Orplid is a German band that was formed in 1996. I haven’t heard the previous works of the band but in “Sterbender Satyr” the band is moving on folk, electronic psychotic paths with some male and female vocals every now and then. The album’s title means “Dying Satyr” and maybe the band has been influenced by the Greek mythology this time… and I say maybe ‘cause the vocals are all in German language and I do not understand anything. The atmosphere is quite gloomy and cold and I totally believe that this release does not address to many people but only to those that are font of the darkness and the dark atmospheres in general. I would recommend you to listen to some samples before you go out buying it.

OSTARA
“ULTIMA THULE”
(Eislicht-Verlag)
Well to tell you the truth I didn’t know this band at all and their promo although it arrived a little late, it was kind of a surprise for me. Ostara is a band that’s coming from England and it is Richard Leviathan’s and Stu Mason’s “child”. The music style of this album is synth, atmospheric music with many rock elements. I know that this combination sounds pretty interesting, but believe me the guys have given their best of themselves in order to achieve a good result. The production of the album is very good and clear and all songs have strong melodies and an atmospheric orchestration. I like very much atmospheric good melodic music and Ostara surprised me a lot with “Ultima Thule”, cause it came out of nowhere and left me with the best impressions. I do not know if their previous albums sound like this one, but I only know that that the fans of atmospheric, new wave, pop-rock music will like “Ultima Thule” a lot. The best songs of the album are the atmospheric opener “Rose Of The World”, the pop-ish “Nightmare Machines”, the “strange” esoteric “Diva De Sade” (this song also has a totally weird trance remix in the end of the album, which I like it), the homonymous “Ultima Thule”, the epic “Proud Black Templar” (which has no other instruments at all, except the vocals!), the soft-rock “Immortally Wounded” and the melodious “Black Spring”. Ostara’s new album is a very good suggestion for the fans of atmospheric music.

OSI
"OFFICE OF STRATEGIC INFLUENCE"
The "Office of Strategic Influence" is a super-project formed by Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) on guitars, Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) on drums, Kevin Moore
(Chroma Key, ex-Dream Theater) on keyboards and vocals and Sean Malone (Cynic, Gordian Knot) on bass. All the above great musicians made an album that is very difficult to be described. In general I can say that this album belongs to the progressive metal/rock scene. The songs are not easy to be listening and also they can be difficulty
memorised. If you want to understand the album as a whole result, you have to listen to it many times and then you will realise that each time you listening to it, you 're going have a different opinion about it. Some songs are heavy and have some speed and others are painful slow. In my opinion the best song in this album is "Shutdown", on which Steven Wilson (Porcupine tree) sings. You must defiantly listen to it! Other worth-hearing songs are "Hello, Helicopter", "Dirt From a Holy Place" and
"OSI". If you are curious about who OSI are, just try to listen to them, it's definitely
worthwhile!

OUTLAND
“LONG WAY HOME”
(Melodic Symphony/Frontiers)
Outland’s
new album will please all AOR fans cause it’s in the same style with its
debut but this time with better production and better songs. The band,
which is predestined to offer us good 80’s AOR, could not go wrong. This
time the songs are more powerful, memorable and well produced. If you love
Survivor, Foreigner, Bon Jovi and Boston then you are going to like songs
like: “Borderline”, “Love Ain’t The Answer”, “The Hardest Part
Of All”, “Madeline”, “Turn Some Pages”, “Don’t Turn Back”
and the bonus track “Love Of My Life”. Jeff Prentice and Rob Nishida
showed once again their big love for this kind of music and this time they
had the help of Pat Torpey (Mr. Big) behind the drums as well. There is
also a cover of Thin Lizzy’s “Hollywood” in the album, which is
good, and is played with a more AOR feeling. I’m sure that the fans of
the band and the lovers of 80’s American AOR will love this album
‘cause is better than their debut in any way but it is only recommended
to the AOR die-hard fans. As for the others listen to it first and then
decided whether it fits you or not.

OUTLAND
“DIFFERENT WORLDS”
(Avalon/Marquee)
Outland was formed by the L.A.’s musicians Jeff Prentice and Rob Nishida. The music style of the band is A.O.R./melodic rock, which is more close to the 80’s style of this genre. The band have been influenced from bands like Bon Jovi, Boston and of course the “kings” of A.O.R., Survivor. I do not know how many of you, like or are still in love with the 80’s A.O.R. sound, but this album is gonna bring you back a lot of memories for sure! So, if you still fond of this sound, then you should listen to songs like, the opener “Valerie”, the up-tempo rocker “Love Alive”, the sensitive ballad “Forever Yours”, the rocker “One More Night”, the 80’s guitar driver “Mary Anne”, the super ballad “Last Forever”, the very good cover of the Stage Dolls track “Love Cries” and the affecting ballad “Dream Away”. In a few words, this album won’t change your life and it won’t offer you something new at all, but in the end it is a very good and honest try from the band to play music that they truly like. If you consider yourself as a fan of this genre that should have all the releases of this genre then give ‘em a shot.

OUT OF THE LAIR
“PSYCHOTEARS”
(Self-Financed)
The group was formed in 1995 and was firstly named Wolverine. They come from Thessaloniki, Greece, and they changed their name to Out Of The Lair in the year 2000. After some line-up changes and taking part in many gigs as a support group for bands like: Evergrey, Sentenced, Nevermore, Candlemass, On Thorns I Lay, Rotting Christ, Primordial and others, they recorded this album which was financed by themselves and not under a label! The current line up is: Spyros (guitars, vocals), Dim (guitars), George Kantzios (bass) and Dionysis Nikolaidis (drums). The music that these guys play is classic heavy metal with many melodies and many interesting moments. Most of the tracks have heavy riffs, interesting vocals, nice lyrics and catchy refrains. I must also mention that in the last two tracks Sakis, Rotting Christ’s vocalist, does some guest vocals. There are also some female vocals in two tracks made by Eleonora. These two guests musicians make the album more interesting and give a different atmosphere so that the album can become enjoyable and for people who like more aggressive music… The production is very nice and is made by George Pyrgos and Out Of The Lair. Lets go now to the booklet, which is very well and professionally designed. It has a wonderful artwork and includes all the lyrics and information about the band. Finally, the CD contains some multimedia extras such as video, lyrics, biography, photos etc. I believe that with a little more effort the band is ready to sign a contract and release its next album. OVERKILL
“KILLBOX 13”
Every time I hear something about the band named “Overkill”, two things come across my mind at once. The first one is that all the members of the group know very well the kind of music the band plays and the second is that the band has never disappointed any (of its fans) fan since now, as they have never released a weak album. So their new cd came upon my hands and I admit that I had no doubt that the album would be good. The matter was how good it would be and I mean that either it would be a normal Overkill work or it would be a great album. After the first listening I was amazed because this is a wonderful record! Even know that I have listened to it many times I have the same opinion and I still enjoy listening to it just like the first time. “Killbox 13” is a classic Overkill album: old school thrash metal influences with great melodies and somehow brutal and aggressive vocals (brutal meaning something like Udo’s voice…) that spit every word straight into your face! The band does not forget its past and even now that almost all thrash groups have turned their sound to other soft forms Overkill insist on emphasizing on heavy guitars and aggressive music. The production is for once again heavy and clear, as it should be for a group of this style. All tracks are great and are going to make your head banging without realizing it! The super hits of this album, according to my opinion, are “Devil By The Tail”, “Damned”, ”No Lights” and “Stuck Down”. This album is surely one of the best albums the band has ever released, and speaking for myself, this is their best album! Buy it or you will be sorry!

OVERLOADED
“HAIL THE KINGDOM/HELLFIRE E.P.”
(Indie)
Overloaded
is a brand new band from
Detroit
that plays passionate,
powerful hard rockin’ music. The guys from the band sent me both the debut
album that was released in April of 2005 and their newest E.P.
“Hellfire” that was also released a few months later. This is a hard
working band, no doubt about it, which has been influenced from bands like
Skid Row, Saigon Kick and L.A. Guns, and from what I can see they have the
guts and the will to go on... and they can succeed. There are some
differences between the debut album and the E.P., especially on the
production. The debut although is has a solid sound, it looses some dynamics
but believe me that this is one of the best productions that I have heard
from an independent release. It’s not bad or something like that but it
just doesn’t have the shine that a good professional production has...
that’s all. The production on the E.P. is much better and more dynamic, as
it is the music of the band which has become a little heavier on
“Hellfire”. As it concerns the songs of the album and of the E.P., I
have to say that they are very interesting and heavy and there is now way to
get bored by listening to both albums. My beloved songs from the two
releases are: “Beaver Fever”, “Where Are You Running To?”,
“Cyclone”, “Sick”, “Hellfire”, “Shotgun
City” and “Zygote”. The
band has the potentials to make a carrier in music and it’s a matter of
time to be discovered by a record company. It’s really weird how music
labels mostly sign trash gay pop-rock bands and they ignore heavy new
talented bands like Overloaded. Do not overlook a new gifted band that now
is making its first steps in the music world. You will regret it afterwards.

OWING TO THIS
“BREATH THE MIDNIGHT AIR”
(Casket)
This band was formed in early 2003 and during the two years that have passed
since then, the band has released six EPs, played many live shows, signed a
contract with Casket Records and released its debut album! The band says
that they play hardcore music, but I found very few hardcore influences in
their sound... Their music is basically based on the melodic death metal,
but there are also some nu-metal and doom and hardcore influences as well.
The vocals (Chris Walsh) are aggressive and can be characterized as hardcore
vocals by the fans of this kind of music. I would characterize them as
annoying vocals, because I couldn’t stand them at all... He screams and
squeaks in a very bad way that gives on my nerves! Their main characteristic
is their ability to change their style from aggressive to very calm with a
very nice way, but this is not enough for a new-coming band. The vocalist
destroys every good idea, every good riff and the heavy/clean production on
this album! The guitarists (Robb Merhej and Alec Chaney) have done a very
good job and the same goes for the rhythm section (Tom Bicknell on bass and
James Thaw on drums). I believe that if the band had another vocalist this
would be a good aggressive album and the grade would have been higher for
sure...
