Sometimes “coincidences” in life are there to
show you a path. That’s how I came across to The Poodles as I was
searching some months ago to see if any rock bands were about to
attend at the Eurovision Song Contest. Of course Finland has already
chosen to send its “Monsters” but The Poodles were one of the
preponderate bands/artists to go to Euro Song Contest, but in the end
the didn’t make it. Anyway, that’s not my point here. The good
thing is that The Poodles were participating with “One Night Of
Pasion” and to be honest when I listen to the specific song I
thought that if they make it (haven’t understood yet why Swedish
people didn’t vote them!) then they an easily win the first position. Leaving history behind, I was waiting to listen to
the debut album of the band that consists of well-known members like
Jakob Samuel on vocals (Jekyll and Hyde), Pontus Norgren on guitars (Bai
Bang, Great King Rat, Talisman, Humanimal, Jekyll and Hyde, Zan Clan
etc.), Pontus Egberg on bass (Lion’s Share, Dark illusion, Ignition,
Zan Clan) and Christian Lundqvist on drums (R.A.W.). I should also
mention that the known Mats Leven (Lion’s Share, Swedish Erotica,
Treat, Dogface) is on backing vocals. So, how can those musicians let
us down? It’s kind of difficult… but here not even the do not
disappoint us but they offer us one of the best album of 2006. Melodic
hard rock straight from the heart of the 80’s with beautiful
refrains and catchy melodies. That’s all we (the fans) are asking
for… and than God some bands are offering it to us. The production is very strong and powerful (was
made by Johan Lyander) and the songs are very strong as well.
“Echoes From The Past”, “Metal Will Stand Tall”, “Night Of
Passion”, “Shadows”, “Lie To Me”, “Rockstar” “Number
One” and “Kingdom Of Heaven” will rock you to the ground… and
the emotional “Song For You” (I really like this weird song due to
the guest vocals from the baritone Jonas Samuelsson-Nerbe) and
“Crying” will show you a softer side of the band and more melodic…
those song are gonna be your beloved ones! It really makes me happy the fact that so many
bands are putting 80’s rock elements on their music in order to
become successful in our days. So, I do not think that we can only
expect great things from the “old” bands of this genre ‘cause
the “new ones” have sowed us that they are not joking at all and
they have fresher and catchier ideas than the “old ones”. I truly
like this situation ‘cause we get better albums and songs and
that’s good not only for the music industry but for the fans as well.
The Poodles released a rock dynamite that no rock fan should miss.
