Surprise Of June 2007

The word “supergroup” always makes me skeptical of what I’m about to listen to… and most of the times does not even meet our musical expectations. Thankfully the case here is different and I can assure you that Amaran’s Plight is indeed s prog super-group that was formed by Gary Wehrkamp (Shadow Gallery – on guitars, synth), DC Cooper (ex-Royal Hunt, Silent Force – on vox), Nick D’Virgilio (Spock’s Beard – on drums) and Kurt Barabas (Under The Sun – on bass).

The line-up is fantastic but the most suprising thing with this release is the music quality of the album… those guys have given the best they could to record and compose this excellent piece of work. The music is influenced mostly by Shadow Gallery with some elements from all the other aforementioned bands… and then comes the unique voice of the gifted D.C. Copper which makes the whole concept more tragic and more majestic. The lyrical concept talks about one man’s search for answers following a Near Death Experience and was developed by writer, John W. Crawford who also contributed as musical director and lyricist.

The musical emotions change from song to song and with every new listen you will enter more and more at the dark thoughts of our protagonist… this is not an easy listening album… it requires your full time in order to let the atmosphere “take” you to the deepest corners of Near Death Experiences. This album will “force” you to sit down, read the lyrics and become one with the protagonist… want a bet?... just push “play” and let Amaran’s Plight do the rest… on of the best prog rock/metal albums of 2007.
