Surprise Of July 2005

New solo work from the legendary guitarist Tony Iommi who has again by his side the great Glenn Hughes. So, what are you waiting to listen to from those two guys that have marked hard rock/heavy metal music through the years? Nothing less than great hard n’ heavy music... and of course teachers not usually do wrong! The truth is that the album surprised me by its heaviness and the awesome heavy and clear production... but are those things really a surprise when we are talking about two of the “holy monsters” of rock music? Not for the “old” listeners but maybe only for the “new” ones.

The album is “marked” once again by Tony’s incredible heavy riffs, his fantastic solos and of course Glenn’s excellent vocals. I also believe that this album could have been under Black Sabbath’s name, as some excellent works that Tony has released under the name of Black Sabbath in the late 80’s early 90’s. Overall this work is better than some works of Black Sabbath in the past. On the other hand, the dark atmosphere of the album and songs such as: “Dopamine”, “Wasted Again”, “Saviour Of The Real”, “Deep Inside A Shell”, “What You’re Leaving For”, “The Spell” and the terrific epic “I Go Insane” (Iommi’s new hymn), will thrill both old and new fans of hard n’ heavy music.

Before closing this review, I must give an answer to some people who effortlessly said that although the album is good it lacks originality. Oh, my goodness... you have forgotten so easily who taught all these new bands how to play heavy with attitude and whom all these bands are trying to copy over the years ?!! No need for further words... some guys were born to play such kind of music and to lead and some others just to follow... the leader can’t lack of originality... that’s so damn!

Anyway, as Mr. Hughes has written, in the booklet of the CD, “It’s all about the chemistry” and I totally believe that he couldn’t have said it better... There is a great chemistry between Tony and Glenn and you better believe it. This album is recommended not only to the old rock/metal fans but also to the new ones... when leaders decide to speak then only silence is left for the followers.
