Hi Nick & Antonis – welcome to Grande Rock. Firstly, give us a brief bio of the band.
N: Hello! Saboter was formed in 2014 by me (Nick) and Antonis in a way so that we can play music the way we like and feel.
How did you come up with the name Saboter?
N: The name of the band came from Antonis... and we’re gonna reveal the meaning in the future...
Since there are several same members between Saboter & (the disbanded) Overcast (GR)… do tell us if the Overcast split-up meant the formation of Saboter or there’s no connection between these two things. By the way, why did Overcast disband back in the day?
N & A: There is no connection between the two bands; it is just that we are all friends for many years. Overcast disbanded because we wanted to play something new and fresh.
As soon as the band was formed did you discuss the musical orientation or it just came about naturally during the first rehearsals?
N & A: The music orientation came naturally, cause we wanted to play something new, for us at least. This is the only thing discussed: let’s play how we feel!
You released a self-titled EP in 2015 and your debut full-length album now. Why’s that? Did you want to make a rather quick entrance to the scene or there were just some “old tracks” that you wanted to release without any further postponement?
N & A: As we were playing we came with the songs of the self-titled EP, so we decided to record and release them as our first step. And naturally the new songs for the full-length album came along and we made the next step.
By the way how did your cooperation with the label Witches Brew occur? How many releases have you signed for with the label?
N & A: The cooperation with the Witches Brew came when I sent the EP, through the internet, to the label, so Ann decided to release it as a 700 handwritten CD copies and the same thing also happened with the full-length album “Mankind is Damned”. We haven’t signed anything, it was let’s say an “internet handshake”.
Do tell us why “Mankind is Damned”?
N & A: It speaks about the power that makes the history repeats itself again and again with different faces and in different places, about good give a way to evil and vice versa, so... Mankind is Damned!
Tell us a couple of things about each track…
N & A : We will suggest that is better to listen and read the lyrics so you can dive into the story of every song. Cause the album is a concept and every song is a part of it.
Where did the recordings take place and who produced, mixed and mastered the album?
N & A: The recordings took place in Athens, Greece at the Entasis studio. The mixing and production took place At Feedback Sound studios by Harris Zourelidis in Athens, Greece as well.
You have released 3 official videos so far! It’s not a thing that you easily see these days, even by big metal bands. Anyhow, any chance to release a video for my personal favorite “Assassins” at some point?
N & A : We did that so we can expose our work more. The circle of videos for the album is closed now.
What are the band’s touring plans so far?
N & A: Apart from the live shows we are gonna have in our country also we will take part in Trvheim fest at Germany this Summer.
What are your expectations from your debut “Mankind is Damned” and what do you wish to achieve with Saboter at long term?
N & A: We are working really hard for the best results.
How would you describe Saboter’s music style to someone who hasn’t heard of the band before?
N: Dark and strong heavy metal!
It’s time for our Weird Questions!!! If you could “erase” one thing from modern music, what would it be?
N: One thing have to be erased for sure is the overused technicality.
What do you think about this “Views, tweets & Likes” mania of our time?
N: Simple, we live in the Digital dark ages.
Are “social media” a “compulsory part” of music biz these days or bands, artists & labels can do without them as well?
N: Now it is the easiest way to release or just expose your work.
Has the internet changed the ways music should be played and released or not? Is it a “divine gift” or a curse?
N & A: We think it is both; it depends on how you use it.
Top 3 Epic movies of any era?

Which is the record you wish you had written and why?
N: “Ride the Lightning”, because it has attitude…

N: The attitude…
A: The feeling…

If you had the chance to travel in time… where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?
N & A: To the past because the future, as it seems, sucks!

N & A: Thank you too and have a great time!
