The Quireboys live in London 2018

The mix of ages and styles in the audiences proves their skill in being able to both keep the spirit and sound of classic rock & roll and blues, whilst dragging it kicking and screaming in to the 21st century, with their unique Quireboys twist.

The suspense was palpable as we waited for them to enter the stage. Everyone immediately erupted into cheering and wolf whistling when they first caught a glimpse.

Spike looked amazing in his deep red velvet, pirate-esque appearance. With his flowing scarfs twirling around him as he danced about the stage. And he gave them the perfect introduction: “We are The Quireboys, and this, is rock and roll”…

Tusmørke to release new studio album “Fjernsyn i Farver” on May 4th 2018

Hot on the heels of their surprising children’s album, released on Karisma Records in late 2017, Norwegian Psychedelic Prog Folk Rockers Tusmørke are set to release “Fjernsyn i Farver”, their sixth full-length album, on May 4th, 2018.

Never having been a band that is afraid of anyone, or anything, even the extremely complex, and rather baffling theories of existence, Tusmørke are happy to tackle any subject matter they perceive to be significant, and are quite prepared to wrestle their musical way through ideas that they barely comprehend. Which brings us to the somewhat mind-blowing concept on which “Fjernsyn i Farver” is based.

Lacuna Coil live in Athens 2017

Italians Sinheresy, opened the show and in the dark, because of the figure she cut, tall and thin, I mistook their singer for Elina Laivera (a Greek female singer that has relocated in Germany, which I found odd)… ehm, soon I conferred they were Italians and their style is a mix of mid-era Nightwish and early Lacuna Coil, sort of contemporary rock, with female vocals that doesn’t go too often into symphonic territory. They did lack cohesion and stagecraft and were at best OK, with their entire presence there feeling a bit awkward. Well time and tours will make em or break them, but they really failed to leave a lasting impression.

The Quireboys - White Trash Blues

The Blues are primarily a “black” music style, but that doesn’t mean that quite a few “white boys” didn’t play a mean blues guitar, sometimes with such gusto, that it put to shame some of the cornerstone artists of the genre, becoming legendary themselves in the process…

Now “The Quireboys” never set out to be a blues band; they more or less started out and continue to be a kick ass rock n roll one, but they are able to play the blues with such authenticity that I had to think again whether Spike was a Geordie that relocated to London and not some smoked up, whisky swillin ‘ southerner. Damn!

Tusmørke to release new studio album “Bydyra” on November 10th 2017

The folks at Karisma Records have surprised everyone by, almost literally, pulling a rabbit out of their hat with the upcoming release from their new signing, Prog Folk Rockers Tusmørke, whose new album is very different indeed in both concept and guest artists.

Titled “Bydyra”, which translated means “Urban Wildlife”, this will be the fifth full-length album from the Norwegians. What is surprising about it is that this is the first album that Tusmørke have written specifically for, and performed with, children.

Greek metal/rock band, Raw In Sect, have released a new and crazy music video for “Therion”.

The song is taken from the upcoming third album “Kitro”, to be out in September.

The video can be viewed hbelow.

Filmed in London's Black Island studios by director Peter Lee Scott, the band says the video is mean to reflect the transformation into Therion, which is to “find inner power in a primitive way getting in touch with your instincts”.

Hexvessel announces February 2017 Finland Headline Tour

In January 2016 Hexvessel released their 3rd album “When We Are Death”, praised by worldwide media. The British Prog magazine called it “a vision quest filled with wonder and baleful energy” and Kerrang honored it with a 4K review: “Marrying the retrofied experimentalism of King Crimson to the hazy musicality of Hawkwind...” The band just calls it psychedelic forest folk.
