The Grammy awards paranoia...

GR logoWell, the 59th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was held on February 12th, 2017, in Staples Center in Los Angeles. According to the official “Grammy” definition: A Grammy Award, or Grammy, is an honor awarded by The Recording Academy to recognize outstanding achievement in the mainly English-language music industry.
OK got it now?! An “honor”, by “The Recording Academy” to “recognize outstanding achievement”. How cool is that? Hence, let’s take a look at the Grammys nominees on the rock & metal music.
The winner for the “Best Rock Performance” was David Bowie with “Blackstar”. The other nominees on this category were: Alabama Shakes, Beyonce featuring Jack White, Disturbed and Twenty One Pilots. It’s obvious that Beyonce and Twenty One Pilots have nothing to do with rock music but according to “The Recording Academy” they are so “rock” that they should be included on the “Best Rock Performance” category. Alabama Shakes has at least something to do with rock music in general.
The winner for the “Best Metal Performance” was Megadeth with “Dystopia”. The other nominees on this category were: Baroness, Gojira, Korn & Periphery. Well, which act is “metal” in the actual term of the word concerning the aforementioned ones!? Whatever! And really does “Dystopia” deserve a “Grammy”? What about other tracks from “Rust in Peace” and “Countdown to Extinction” (and more)?! I guess the guys & gals from “The Recording Academy” do know better!
The winner for the “Best Rock Song” was David Bowie with “Blackstar”. On the same category we see: Radiohead, Metallica, Twenty One Pilots and Highly Suspect. How “rock” is a band called “Metallica”?! Is it tragic to see Metallica competing along with above-mentioned acts?! And how devastating is the fact to see Metallica performing live with Lady Gaga?!! Good for them!!! I guess that thing will help them on their career in general… hooray!
The winner for the “Best Rock Album” was Cage The Elephant with “Tell Me I’m Pretty”. On the same category we also find: Blink-182, Gojira, Panic! At The Disco and Weezer. If this is your definition for the “best rock album” then it’s fine with me… but better study your “rock lessons” again from the beginning.
The winner for the “Best Alternative Music Album” was David Bowie with “Blackstar”. I really do not know if David would get so many Grammys if he were still alive. In truth to be told, “Blackstar” is a wonderful album on the whole. On the same category we see: Bon Iver, PJ Harvey, Iggy Pop and Radiohead. What do the “big minds” from “The Recording Academy” mean with “alternative music”? I think they can hardly say so themselves.
Henceforth, what do we see from the Grammy awards once again? Are the guys & gals behind “The Recording Academy” totally irrelevant with music? No, it’s hard to say so. What’s their main “issue” though? I think that “money talks & bullshit walks” can describe the specific situation perfectly! It’s all about the money and the good PR… nothing more, nothing less.
Due to the Grammy awards, I had the same thoughts on my mind every year, so I decided to speak them freely and get over with that “thing” once and for all. It’s too bad to see bands and artists from rock & metal music to deal with the specific “awards”. Let’s hope that one day they will turn them their backs irreversibly.
