Be unique – find an exclusive band name...

GR logoI was looking at a band’s name the other day and it was familiar in a way. Then I did a brief search and I found out that there have been at least 4-5 bands with the same name since the 70s. This wasn’t the first time that I happened upon a band with a name that has been used before. This is sort of an issue that’s more evident today than ever. I do not know why, but more and more bands tend to get names that are already around and they do not make things easy for them; instead they become more complex & weird.

Once upon a time a band used to pick up a name that would showcase the uniqueness of their music and their attitude. Nowadays, it’s like all the names in the world have been shortened drastically and the bands can hardly find any unique name… instead they just pick a name that’s already in use or it used to be and they go on. I remember there have been quite some court battles all the way from the 60s for such things and every band/artist was trying to be unique at least in a way – if not musically.

Well the funny thing is that nowadays the bands are not only musical imitators of the old ones but they also “steal” their names too… how tragic is that?! And you wanna call yourselves “artists” and you believe that your band that has the same name with several other bands will make history!!! Certainly, the “major” labels that have made the whole music industry like “plastic” and they tend to create more music clones, namely, are the main reason for this downfall.

Please guys, next time you’re trying to find a name for your band, do a better search, and try to come up with something at least personal and not with a name that is being used by various others…

PS: I won’t go far and comment on some really bad behaviors, but when you are agreeing to do something, a shooting, an article etc. you do not have the right to call it off a year or so after just because “epiphany” struck you or something like that. You are responsible for your own actions and none “made” you do so. You were asking for it in order to promote your “work”… so you gotta play by the rules afterwards…

PS2: GR’s Spotlight Models for June is the hot Veronika Scandale. Check out her interview and pics here.

PS3: This month’s editorial is dedicated to drummer Nick Menza, who suddenly passed away a couple of weeks ago. Nick was a gifted drummer and unfortunately he left too early – he had so much to give to our beloved metal music. We are all thankful for the music all these years. Rest In Peace Nick…
