COWBOY PROSTITUTES

I’m really happy when I see newcomers in rock music to have passion, attitude and the will to offer to our beloved music. Cowboy Prostitutes is a new band from Sweden that has just released its debut album. They are mixing in very interesting way hard rock music and dirty rock n’ roll and they seem that they will be around for a long time! We found the mastermind/singer/bassist of the band Luca Isabelle and he kindly answered all of our questions. Read below for more details…

Hi Luca. I'm so glad talking to you. Your debut album has just been released. How do you feel about that?

L: Great!!! I’m really excited cause we’ve been working on this for nearly a year now and it feels real good to see that it’s finally paying back.

Before we talk about the band and your debut album please tell me why did you name the band Cowboy Prostitutes.

L: It’s what we feel we are: dirty and ugly like cowboys and ready to do anything in the name of Rock‘n’Roll like a whore.

The first goal has achieved. So, what's next for the band?

L: Gig after gig, after gig, after gig… We are trying to get as many gigs as possible so if anyone is interested, send us an e-mail.

I’m really happy that you are about to release your debut album cause I truly like Cowboy Prostitutes. So, which are those new and fresh elements that Cowboy Prostitutes can offer to hard rock-rnr music?

L: You know, every new band that I’ve been checking out in the genre describes their music as “ass kicking”, “the best shit on the planet” and so on. I won’t bore you with that crap! We are “fresher” than anyone else, cause we take care of our songs. We don’t just put together a bunch of chords thinking that it will sound more like a song if we turn up the distortion level; we actually write songs! We look after the emotions, the vibes and sure we’ll kick your ass but we don’t need to tell you that: if we’re calling ourselves a rock band, it’s obvious we will!

If I didn’t know that you are from Sweden I would bet that you are coming from America, maybe from LA! Maybe you love too much the American hard rock scene.

L: Dude, I tell you: the world’s lucky enough to have us ‘round, that the question shouldn’t even be asked. We like rock. And we play it as it is!

You know what I like most from your music. I like that had rock guitars are mixed well together with rock n’ roll themes and with nice melodies. You know, not so many bands can combine all those elements so good as you do. Which are those bands that have influenced Cowboys Prostitutes?

L: There’s so many. Each one of us got at least 100 favourite bands! Guns‘n’Roses, Motley Crue, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Motorhead… and personally I’ve been very influenced by the trashier side of the 80’s LA scene (but that’s just my luck).

By the way how you could characterize the music style of your band?

L: Good question! Only wimps and scared people have the need for categories: I’m not bother: call me punk, I don’t mind. Put us in the heavy metal list, suits me fine. You can even compare us to the Spice Girls, who cares: our music speaks for itself: it’s great music. That’s all it is.

Another thing that is trademark for the band is your wonderful hard rock voice! Who are the singers that have influenced you?

L: I’ve always been a bass player; I started to sing just because when we formed the band we decided we couldn’t be bothered with any fucking primadonna singer. So I just found out I could do this about two years ago, I didn’t have time to get influenced by anybody! I tell you what singers I like though: Axl, Junkyard’s David Roach, Mike Ness, Taime Down.

Now I would like you to tell me a few words about each one of the songs.

L: Each one?!?! Geese…

Well… “Blood On Your Blade”: Just a crazy story from the past.

“Make A Name For yourself”: A song for the young.

“Wasted”: When you’re in love with the wrong woman.

“Joy”: To Joey Ramone.

“Welcome Back”: When your trying to get people off your back.

“The Damned”: A warning from people who will do anything in their power to drag you down in their misery.

“Television”: For all the beaten up, abused, repressed/depressed women out there.

“Alive And Well”: It will kill you.

“The Ghost Of Venice”: To my hometown.

“Over The Top”: Just to say: you can’t stop me motherfucker!!

Can you tell me which are your favorite songs from the album and why?

L: I love “ Blood On Your Blade” ‘cause it was a great adventure but I feel that “The Ghost Of Venice” is my favourite one since it’s the most personal one and it’s the kind of song you wouldn’t expect to find on this album: a real treat.

Do you personally compose all music and write lyrics?

L: It is normally either me or Anders who comes out with the riffs, then we put them through the big crashing machine that is Cowboy Prostitutes and then I add the lyrics to what ever comes out of it.

Tell us about your co-operation with Joe Dolan and Retrospect Records. Are you totally satisfied with it?

L: Absolutely: Joe is a great guy and loves his job. At this very moment I wouldn’t change it for anything else. It’s still early days but I trust the label and I’m confident they’ll do their best to get our album the recognition it deserves.

Are there any details about the album that you would like to share? Funny stuff, way of recording it, etc?

L: Every single moment of the recording process was great fun. There are so many stories about it… a tip is: the first thing you hear on the album is Pistolper’s screaming just before recording the drums; it’s his way of concentrating! We thought it was so funny that we couldn’t stop laughing: he really looked like some Viking getting ready for battle!!

Who made the production of the album? Are you completely satisfied with it?

L: We have actually done it mostly ourselves with the help of our sound engineer. I’m very satisfied with it. Every song sounds exactly like we thought it should.

Which are those things that you would change if you had the chance again?

L: Actually nothing.

How far do you think that you can go with Cowboy Prostitutes?

L: All the way dude!! We have a great album coming out and we’re already working on new songs! I think you’ll hear about us for a long time.

What are the expectations from this album and your future plans?

L: I think that to plan too much or try to predict the future brings bad luck but I think a lot of people will like this album and the next one and the next one…

Are you going on tour? In which countries are you planning to play?

L: We would love to play in every single corner of the world. At the moment we are planning some gigs in Sweden, of course Italy and possibly in the US of America. You never know: we might even end up in Greece.

Let’s go to some more general questions now. Do you believe that is so easy for a band to differ in today’s music industry than in the past? And if yes what shall it do in order to achieve it?

L: Quite the opposite actually. I think nowadays there’s so much shit thrown in the eyes of the fans that a good band needs some kind of A-bomb to get noticed. I think the only way to stick out these days is to be yourself! There are so many fake people around spreading shit (the one who tell you they “kick ass”) that the ones that are real will be noticed.

Do you believe that hard rock music it's on its rise again?

L: Yes! And you know why? Cause we’re around!

Which band do you consider that can take a leading part in hard rock music in the future?

L: I think Motley Crue won’t just do one reunion tour and will be back for a few more years. That will give some attention to us and people like us (is there any?). After that is a gamble but if the bands that are supposed to be playing Rock‘n’Roll will really do that instead of concentrating in copying Backyard Babies there will be a future.

Do you consider Sweden as the capital of hard rock and metal music in Europe?

L: It probably is; that doesn’t mean that all the bands coming out of Sweden are good bands.

Do you already have plans for the next album and what direction you will go in?

L: We are working on some new songs but no real plan has been drown yet. For the next year at least we’ll have to concentrate in promoting our album.

Anyway, what can we wait from Cowboy Prostitutes in the future to come? Maybe an album even better than this one?

L: We’re always trying to improve our music, so…

And some Weird Questions now!!! If you could go back in time and see any band live in their prime & open for them who would it be and why?

L: That’s got to be Guns‘n’Roses and I don’t need to tell you why, it’s obvious.

What would you tell to someone to convince him to buy your album instead of hundreds others that are being released every month?

L: They want your money, we want your soul.

What are the top 5 hard rock albums of all time according to you and why?

L: 1: “Appetite For Destruction” (cause it’s perfect).

2: “Too Fast For Love” (the beginning of the story).

3: “Two Steps From The Move” (all of Hanoi Rocks really, but that’s my favourite).

4: “Between Heaven And Hell” (I just love Mike Ness).

5: “Dr Feelgood” (the best produced).

You see, that’s the pain in the ass with that kind of things: there’s so many great albums that are left out!

How do you imagine that the music world could be, one thousand years from now? And why?

L: The same. There will always be the talented person struggling and the clever but untalented one getting rich.

What would you do, if you had supernatural power?

L: Drink Lemmy under the table!

Which are the things that piss you off from today’s music industry?

L: The fake ness of it all. The music industry has always been fake but at least they used to be good in hiding it. Nowadays it’s so obvious and still they make millions. Actually, I’m not really pissed off with the music industry itself; they’re just out to make money. I’m pissed off with the idiots who buy their crap! The mongoloids who get brain washed by MTV every day, who think that The Darkness is the best rock band of the past 20 years (they have really been voted that in some magazine) or that Puff Daddy and that gang of small dicks are great entertainers; why? Because they can tell you they’re gangsters? Go to fucking Sicily and meet the real gangsters if you’re so interested: they’ll entertain you!

Which is the most overrated band today?

L: The Darkness. That’s a fucking joke!

Ok. Dream hard rock band. Who is who? Choose members from the history of hard rock music.

L: Axl on the vocals. Keith Richards and Andy Mc Coy on guitars, Nikki Sixx on bass, Keith Moon on drums.

Imagine that your girlfriend is selling your whole album-collection just to buy for her an expensive, ring. How would you react?

L: Sell the ring and by the collection back.

Ok Luca, I wish you the best for that album, cause you truly deserve it. The last words of this interview belong to you. Thank you again for taking the time to answer to my questions! If there is anything else that you would like to tell to Grande Rock readers, just do it!!

L: This was just an interview. Words printed on a computer screen. If you really want to know what we’re all about check our album out at: www.retrospectrecords.com. Take good care of yourselves (and of your record collection!!).
