Dream Theater - The Astonishing

Dream Theater have teased their fans for a while about the release of a new album, first with the “announcement” of two factions, on their website, in a rather cryptic front-page post and then with an actual announcement and a promotional video of a double disk featuring some 130 or so minutes of music and some grand concept about a band of rebels, standing defiant against an oppressive empire with music playing an important role, in their “resistance”.

IZZ to release “Everlasting Instant” on April 7th 2015

IZZ’s new studio album, “Everlasting Instant”, is scheduled for release on April 7th, 2015 and serves as the final installment of a three-part series of albums that began with “The Darkened Room” in 2009 and continued with “Crush of Night” in 2012. “Everlasting Instant” concludes this epic thematic arc with a fresh palette of sounds, all the while maintaining the sharp and memorable melodies that have become a hallmark of the band.

Dawn - Darker

It may have taken them 7 years to come up with the second full-length album but these Swiss guys do know exactly what they are up to. Having a limitless adoration for the 70s era and for bands such as: Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Kansas, Gentle Giant, ELP, Camel, etc., Dawn can be placed on the neo-retro or neo-vintage (if there’s such a thing) ‘movement’ of our time.

Leviathan - Beholden to Nothing, Braver Since Then

Leviathan make their second studio attempt after their reformation and release of a live album as well in 2010, since their disbanding back before the turn of the millennium. Ever since their “re-formation” the band still continuing with their last known “line-up” has pretty much maintained their quite artistic and unique style, well known for its intricate and unusual choices of orchestration that tend to make them sound rather thin and not very metal but more akin to prog rock, yet they are also too heavy to be called that so I guess they’re stuck in the prog middle... or mean!
