After a nearly 2 year long hiatus, Swedish-British modern metal superstars SONIC SYNDICATE got back to the studio to demo new songs.

Legendary vocalist Jon Anderson, YES’s singer/songwriter for 35 years along with his successful work with Vangelis, Kitaro, and Milton Nascimento, will be performing at the 9th Festival Des Guitares Du Monde in Quebec, Canada on May 25, 2013. The show promises to deliver an exciting mixture of material from Jon Anderson's prolific solo career, collaborations with Vangelis and classic YES songs, along with new compositions, highlighted by humorous and enlightening stories told by Jon.

 

Frank Zappa, one of the twentieth century’s most important composers, continues to have an effect on modern music. His list of ex-band members is a who’s who of incredible musicians. For twenty years Project/Object has been on a mission to bring Zappa’s multi-dimensional music and onstage madness to the masses, by faithfully recreating the live Zappa experience with his alumni.

 

Jeff Hanneman guitarist and founding member of the rewoned thrash metal band Slayer died on May 2nd of liver failure. He was 49 years old.

Firewind, Greece's leading metal band spearheaded by guitar-wizard and Ozzy Osbourne band member Gus G., will be releasing a new live album entitled "Apotheosis - Live 2012" on June 24th, 2013 via Century Media Records in Europe, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the band in style. 

 

The cover artwork for "Apotheosis - Live 2012", which will be released as Digipak in its first limited edition pressing, can be viewed above. It was designed by FIREWIND's longtime partner in all design matters, Gustavo Sazes / abstrata.net (Arch Enemy, Angra, Dream Evil, etc.) based on live photography by Hans-W. Rock.

Metal guitar legend Chris Poland (ex Megadeth/OHM) has contributed a guest guitar solo to the new album “Belt Buckles and Brass Knuckles”, from popular Nashville based rock band Moccasin Creek. Poland plays lead on the hard driving track “Only Warning”, which is scheduled to be one of the singles off the album.

 

Watain announce the title and release date of the upcoming album: "After 120 nights of iron will and ardent magic, the fifth fullength album of Watain is now complete. With broken bones and burning hearts we have ploughed our way through deepest winter into a new wilderness, to which we will open the gates at summers end. "The Wild Hunt" will be released on August 19th in Europe and August 20th in USA. Beware the rising star of dawn..."

 

The album was mixed again at the Necromorbus Studio in Alvik, Sweden by Tore Stjerna. No further comments. More details will be unveiled soon.

One of the summer’s most interesting classic rock tours will showcase a pair of stellar UK bands – Nektar and Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash – that have joined forces on the “Legends of U.K. Classic Rock” tour.

 

Both bands feature original founding members and each have decades-long histories of success in the worldwide touring markets, so seeing them together is sure to be a treat for concert-goers fortunate enough to catch one of the shows.
