Surprise Of August 2005

That’s really a big surprise not only for 2005. Blue Tears, 15 years after their classic self-titled debut, have finally released their second album! Some of those songs were already all around the internet and someone could find them on big internet stores by paying a huge amount. Loyal fans of the band had the right to go after those songs but they didn’t know that those songs were just some demos with pretty bad sound. No one should take advantage of fan’s love for his beloved band in order to make more money. That’s unethical. Blue Tears made the right move and sealed a deal with the new Suncity record label in order to release two albums, which will contain some “old” unreleased songs from the early 90’s.

Those who keep in pace with the site should surely know how much I love Blue Tears and that I have also presented Blue Tears’ debut album in the Hall Of Fame section. The new second album of the band was a big surprise to me and I’ve been truly longing to listen to it.

Gregg Fulkerson and his gang released a terrific second album! They knew exactly what people were listening to in the late 80’s early90’s and they just offered it to them! We are talking about a fantastic hard rock album full of melodies and an early 90’s atmosphere that so many bands are trying to release these days but in the end they fail! In truth to be told Gregg is a very good songwriter. He has also proved that to us with Attraction 65 almost two years ago. Personally, if I had to choose between Attraction 65 and Blue Tears I would choose the latter ‘cause I like this kind of music most and Gregg has given us till now many classic hard rock hymns through the years. Considering the fact that we are waiting for another Blue Tears album very soon I will try to be as fairer as I can.

The only part of this album that didn’t satisfy me a lot was the production, which is rather weak on some songs and not as clear as I would like it. But let’s also consider the fact that we are talking about some demo recordings that are been re-mixed and re-mastered to digital CD quality. Of course the final result is by far better than those mp3s or CDs that were sold all over the internet.

Enough about the production of the album... now we are getting to the most interesting part of the CD... the songs! “Mad, Bad & Dangerous” is full of excellent hard rock tunes like “Long Way Home”, “Mystery Man”, “Rock You To Heaven”, “Mad, Bad & Dangerous”, “Kisses In The Dark” (one of the best hard rock songs of the past years), “Everywhere I Go”, “Follow Your Heart”, “Love Machine” and the live “Live It Up”, and of course full of tremendous love songs such as “With You Tonight” (surely one of the best ballads of the last decade), “Evidence Of Love”, “Misty Blue”, “Midnight Train”, “Russia Tonight” and “The Last Serenade”.

Needless to say that this album is a must for the fans of the band and for every rock fan out there that respect himself and do not want to loose some of the best songs of the last 15 years in hard rock music! I do not know about you, but I personally believe that Blue Tears should have been as big as Bon Jovi and Def Leppard but the time wasn’t right 15 years ago. Although they offered us a true classic hard rock debut back then and an excellent new second album now, I think that it’s never too late to get what they deserve... and they deserve to be considered as one the best bands when it comes to late 80’s-early 90’s hard rock music!!
