Surprise Of April 2006

A
genius is a genius… the first one will always be first as long as he
keeps himself in good shape and do not underrate his opponents… and
Everegrey will always be a unique and great band… yes, it’s so
simple! What can I write about this band that I haven’t written
before? There isn't much left to say given that every time Evergrey
decide to release a new album, they leave me breathless and I really
cannot tell which album I prefer the most among the 6 albums that they
have released till now. If you haven’t understood what’s going on
here… I must simply tell you that Evegrey is one of those big bands
that are not being formed everyday and I’m really happy that I have
the pleasure to follow them… we should be thankful that we have such
a great band in our times!
Songwise
this album is the most straight-forward work of the band… simpler
song forms, memorable themes, excellent hooks, heavy guitars and
inspired songs… yes, one of the few bands that can write down some
outstanding songs from album to album and not repeat themselves… and
one of the few bands that has its own recognizable unique sound. I
think that with this album Evergrey made a step in order to reach a
bigger audience and this is why the songs are more straight-forward…
that’s why the production, arranged by Sanken Sandquist and Stefan
Glaumann (Bon Jovi, Rammstein and Def Leppard) along with the band’s
help, is crystal clear (maybe the best production that the band had to
date) and gives to the album a fresher air and a more mainstream
“edge”… do not be surprised if you see them in the future under
a major record company… after all they deserve it and they can reach
a bigger audience, although in my opinion they have nothing to prove
to anyone… their so far carrier is only full of gems.
Thank
God bands like Evergrey keep the metal flame up high, in a period
where nu-metal – wannabe real metal – bands try to steal the glory
from the true metal masters! This album is heavy, dark, melodic and in
one word is Evergrey… that means that it is inspired and that
contains outstanding songs… no need to say that “Monday Morning
Apocalypse” is a must for anyone’s CD-collection… as all
Evergrey’s albums are… if you miss the previous works… then at
least do a smart move and get this album to begin your Evergrey
collection… Surely one of the top albums of 2006.
