SINAMORE

Sinamore is a new promising band from Finland that has recorded five demos so far and only now managed to sign a contract with a label. Their last demo “Follow Into The Cry” sounds very interesting and so we asked from Mikko (guitars and vocals) to tell us a few words about the band…

Hello Mikko! How are you doing? First of all, I would like you to tell us a few words about Sinamore.

M: Hello, I’m fine. Thanks for asking! The band was formed in 1997 by three fellows: me and my two friends from my childhood, Miika (drums) and Jarno (bass). So, I took the place behind the microphone and the guitar. At first we played some cover songs from bands like Metallica and Megadeth. Couple of years passed by and we started to write our own music. The first demo was recorded in 1999 (three songs of melancholic rock...). With this line-up we recorded three demo CDs. Between the recordings and rehearsals we started seeking for a fourth member to join us and to play the 2nd guitar. After few years of searching we found Tommi. Today the line-up is Mikko Heikkilä – guitars and vocals, Miika Hostikka – drums, Jarno Uski – bass and Tommi Muhli – guitars. With this line-up we recorded the demos “Sleeping Away” and “Follow Into The Cry”.

What does Sinamore mean and why did you name the band like this?

M: The first name of our band was Halflife, but people mixed it to this computer game with the same name (that we didn’t know when we named ourselves). So, when Tommi joined us we changed the name to H/L. Now we signed a record deal and chose to name ourselves again… Last summer Tommi came up with this new name: Sinamore. It comes from the words – sin - and – amore. Everyone can make his or her own conclusions from that…

“Follow Into The Cry” is the fifth promo CD for Sinamore, but only now did you sign a contract with a label. Why did this happen?

M: We had tried so long to get a contract, but... I don’t know. I can’t really answer that question. I guess the time was right this time…

Tell us a few words about your label and why you chose this one?

M: Worldchaos Production is a Japanese label. They chose us… they were quick enough to catch us… those lucky bastards!! J

Did your previously released promos sound like “Follow Into The Cry” or you have changed your music direction during these years?

M: The direction hasn’t changed that much, but we have. The first demos sounded more rockin’ than “Follow Into The Cry”... I guess we’re moving into a right direction.

How would you characterize your music and what are your influences as a band?

M: Our style is some kind of a rough mix of metal, dark rock and melancholic melodies. Stories about shattered love and the dark side of normal life…

What does bands like Sentenced and Charon mean to you and the band?

M: I like their music, but I don’t think them as some idols or something. But yes, I like what their doing…

This promo has a particular sound. Is this the way you are going to sound in the future or are you going to experiment/change your music?

M: I don’t think we are trying to change that intentionally, but I think that I’m able to improve myself as a songwriter and us together as a band.

In my ears your music sounds melancholic and maybe dark. Is this the way you feel or just the way you express your feelings through the music?

M: I’m not a dark person... I think. But this is an excellent way to fulfill the dark side of me.

Could you tell us a few words about the three songs included in this promo CD?

M: “Follow Into The Cry”: The first track I ever wrote to this promo. Great vocals and melodies and crushing guitars. One of my favorites!

“Darkness Of Day”: Slower one. There’s a great story and it’s a good song in everyway. Not a typical metal song.

“My Rain”: Last one on record and most rockin’ piece. I didn’t like the song at all at the beginning. Really great chorus.

Do you personally compose all music and lyrics?

M: Yes, I write almost all our songs and it’s been working this way. This is the way we like to handle things. We make the final arrangements altogether.

Are you going to give any live shows in Finland or anywhere else?

M: Randomly in Finland, but that’s all I can say at this moment. We’ll see…

What are your ambitions about the band?

M: That we could make our living by playing music. Doing the thing we love to do…

Ok Mikko! If there is anything else that you would like to tell to Grande Rock readers, just do it!

M: Please visit our website and get to know our band in: www.sinamore.com.
All feedback is welcome! I wish all the best for you all from here, cold and rainy Finland. Stay Dark!
