Surprise Of March 2003

The truth is that Evergrey is one of the most outstanding metal bands today. Anyone that has followed up their carrier till now can see that the band has only released excellent albums, where you can't tell who is better from the other. But in my humble opinion, the most brilliant thing about this band is that has created it's own personal sound and someone can recognize an Evergrey song from miles away!

Well, it seams that the members of the band (especially Tom Englund) has grown up as a composers cause now their songs are more mature. And that is another thing that I admire in this band. The songwriting is getting stronger from album to album. That is the really meaning of progressive music my friends cause for me progressive is not a virtuoso solo of an artist, unbelievably long that at the end has no creativity and absolutely no essence! In the other hand Evergrey shows how prog heavy dark music should be played nowadays. There's no doubt that every new Evergrey release is like a seminar for other prog heavy bands who have lost the real meaning of progressiveness.

"Recreation Day" has also all those elements that an Evergrey album has: heavy guitars, strong rhythm section, dark essential choirs, depressing piano themes obscure keyboard sounds, and sore catchy vocal melodies. Tom seems to give "soul" in the way that he sings and he knows how to build a strong background to keep the dark side of Evergrey always inside his songs! I strongly believe that every song of this album has something to give to someone who likes to listen to an album more than 5 times! All the songs are outstanding and I really cannot suggest you to listen to a specific song cause I will surely be unfair to those that I will leave out of the list. I only can tell you to listen to every song of the album no less than 5 times, and for sure you are going to feel in love with this terrific album!

Well, it is so difficult to tell how far can reach this band cause as you have seen although they have changed the four from the original five members (yes, also drummer Patrick Carlsson has left Evergrey not a long time ago), the band (or shall I say Tom?) seems not to be infected. If you are meant to be a star, there's nothing that can stop you! To those who haven't listened to Evergrey till now, I would say that it's a really big miss and you will regret someday and that's for sure. As for those who have not got the whole discography of Evergrey I would suggest them to go and buy it right now! Then they can also go and get "Recreation Day" without having any doubts whether this album will be good or not. It's simply Evergrey my friends and Evergrey are a guarantee!
