When Miles Davis initially thought of doing a record like “Bitches Brew”, the first person, considering the guitars that he had in his mind was Jimi Hendrix. But during 1970 Hendrix died and therefore these two geniuses of music never managed to collaborate. Miles Davis asked then the brit John McLaughlin to cover the recordings of in a silent way and “Bitches Brew”. This turned McLaughlin into a jazz superstar.

He then continued by forming the Mahavishnu Orchestra which was a very talented band (Billy Cobham drums, Jan Hammer bass) and the music they produced was superb. The rhythm is heavy and effortlessly unmistakable. A brit, a Panama born drummer and a Czech bass player made a very important record at the time when Miles Davis, Zappa, Santana plus many other bands were in the same game of jazz-rock fusion, i.e improvisation - based music.

John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu collaborated with Santana for love, devotion, surrender a have-to-listen album. With Jack Bruce and Buddy Miles also. The tracks are inseparable and the complete record is perfect from the beginning to the end. It is truly strange for a typical set of ears like mine how the play of an instrument reflects the feelings of the musician at that time, and how different styles become easily recognizable...
